Good puzzles, ok otherwise...

The puzzles in this game are logic puzzles; you do need to observe and occasionally experiment to determine the detailed actions of the furniture monsters, although most of what you need is explained by easy sections before getting to the harder puzzles (none are all that hard, although some took me a while to figure out). Instead of nonsensical item combinations, they try to trick you by requiring you to "think outside the box" a bit to solve some of the puzzles. Your goal in each area is get to the exit (and in some levels optionally access the music boxy, slightly animated paintings that are sometimes obviously present and sometimes hidden, although most are outside the puzzle areas). The game is linear and it is usually not possible to go back at all. It took a bit over 4 hours the second time I played through and I'd guess about double that the first time. There are two hidden paintings I didn't find either time and six total I didn't find the first time. There is a scene index if you just want to try to find the ones you are missing without replaying the full game (it also has a map of where the levels are and the general route you take). The store page currently reads "best enjoyed with a controller" but a keyboard works just as well (other than general ergonomics). The art book shows art and levels from different stages of the design, only maybe 10ish pages are from the final game. I appreciate that they provide a FLAC version of the soundtrack, although I didn't like the music as much as Botanicula and Samorost 3 (although it isn't really all that different). I prefer the puzzles in this game but Botanicula and Samorost 3 are my favorite Amanita games overall. I particularly like the way music is integrated into those games. Creaks is a solid game but nothing special IMO and with the paintings and room decorations my impression was almost always "that is just strange". Not good strange or bad strage, just strange strange.

One of the BEST games I've ever played!

I've encountered this game by browsing for indie adventure games and I must say that the artwork in the game's thumbnail caught my attention almost immediately. I've watched the trailer and the gameplay screenshots and loved them! I was also glad to find that it was on sale. I've just completed the game and I must say that this puzzle game is remarkable in every aspect I can think of! I'd like to break my review to sections to cover it all around: Artwork & Animation: It's entirely hand-drawn with a combination of traditional and computerized animation - meaning that the animations aren't just "puppet" style which are based on hand-drawn flat and non-changing graphics that only move and rotate to simulate animations, but a combination of it which contains different re-drawn traditional animation graphics that gives much more depth and lifelike feel to the game. In addition, there are certain effects that make the hand-drawn characters graphics to look like they're breathing and alive. Puzzles: The puzzles start from simple that gets more advanced and complicated as you progress. What I liked about it is that they're designed in sections (rooms), where when you've completed one room and progress to the next you can forget about the previous room and clear your head for the next room's puzzle. Soundtrack & Audio: The soundtrack of this game is one of a kind! It will make you feel the mood of the locations and characters just right, and will give you musical hints when you progress, even in the middle of puzzles. As for audio, the sound effects are awesome! There's not a single word spoken though but gibberish, which surprisingly makes sense while you play I assure you! I can't recommend this game enough. It's a piece of art and I hope to see more games like it in the future! It really makes me want to learn to draw in this spectacular drawing style myself. Just get it and enjoy this masterpiece. If you like this style of games you won't regret.

How is this amazing?

Puzzles start off logical and simple to understand, it's enjoyable to do them. They end up being extremely convoluted and nothing more than a patience simulator. They are annoying to do even with a walkthrough. I guess you people like sitting there for hours just staring at a screen 'stumped' how to complete the puzzle, but it isn't why I bought this. If I hadn't had good experiences from all other Amanita game (which I own), I'd be really pissed. Then again, I wouldn't have bought this game if not for their previous games, which were fun and not frustrating, unlike this. Wake me up when you do Pilgrims 2.
