Good puzzles, ok otherwise...
The puzzles in this game are logic puzzles; you do need to observe and occasionally experiment to determine the detailed actions of the furniture monsters, although most of what you need is explained by easy sections before getting to the harder puzzles (none are all that hard, although some took me a while to figure out). Instead of nonsensical item combinations, they try to trick you by requiring you to "think outside the box" a bit to solve some of the puzzles. Your goal in each area is get to the exit (and in some levels optionally access the music boxy, slightly animated paintings that are sometimes obviously present and sometimes hidden, although most are outside the puzzle areas). The game is linear and it is usually not possible to go back at all. It took a bit over 4 hours the second time I played through and I'd guess about double that the first time. There are two hidden paintings I didn't find either time and six total I didn't find the first time. There is a scene index if you just want to try to find the ones you are missing without replaying the full game (it also has a map of where the levels are and the general route you take). The store page currently reads "best enjoyed with a controller" but a keyboard works just as well (other than general ergonomics). The art book shows art and levels from different stages of the design, only maybe 10ish pages are from the final game. I appreciate that they provide a FLAC version of the soundtrack, although I didn't like the music as much as Botanicula and Samorost 3 (although it isn't really all that different). I prefer the puzzles in this game but Botanicula and Samorost 3 are my favorite Amanita games overall. I particularly like the way music is integrated into those games. Creaks is a solid game but nothing special IMO and with the paintings and room decorations my impression was almost always "that is just strange". Not good strange or bad strage, just strange strange.
