Addictive - can't stop playing...(GOTTA go to bed now though)
An addictive game for intelligent people who are interested in figuring out what the world is through game play. A slow climb from nothing to uber! I've sunk 20+ hours into this game, and only just gotten to level 3. The Each level comes with new stuff to discover, but the old stuff you've already learned remains useful. Game designers! Ya'll need to work on the AI. You developed some STUPID dwarves! (But, this adds to the challenge, and a clever player - if you're clever - discovers and implements workarounds.) I love this game. Sorta Minecraft, sorta Terraria, sorta Dwarf Fortress, but none of the above. It is its own, but in the same genre as those others. I don't usually post reviews. Not a big believer in them - and yet, here I am, handing out 5 stars. Oh, the game is clean. Nothing a parent would need to worry about (unless killing periodic sheep and chickens is offensive. They don't fight back.)

Crafting a game is hard
I played this game with an open mind, it's early access and felt that an unfinished product should be taken with a pinch of salt. I thought a survival crafting game like Mincraft or Terraria... not to be compared... NOT EVEN CLOSE. The game is pretty shallow and the overall campaign is going no where. The beginning of the game itself is slow and grueling, you start with few dwarfs and the speeding of time is SO SLOW! However the crafting is kind of fun, but the collection of supplies makes this difficult to enjoy. The control of the dwarfs is too cumbersome to game play and need to be fixed. They're controlled one at a time which impedes progress and makes me feel like I'm controlling children. I was hoping for dwarf fortress -or inspired by dwarf fortress- the game's dwarfs have little to no difference to each other and lack the complexity to give individual classes or professions. The description lies. I feel like the games needs to either add more dwarfs (to a point the frame rate chugs) or increase speed time.. The UI is confusing and reading tutorials are long & boring. Not just that the story elements are a bit boring as there here nor there and add nothing to the experience. I brought it on sale and still felt I payed too much for it. Redeemable aspects are the cutie graphics and style that remind me of scary German fairy-tale illustrations. However not worth the whole £10 I payed for it. If it gets major updates I'd say it'd be an okay experience but I'm not sure it's going to get the major updates it needs too soon. Perhaps wait for a sale and look at recent videos of game play (if any). It's hard to craft a game but hopefully the developers will look at the feedback and make changes.
