THE ART OF: Corsairs - Battle of the Caribbean - Official Artbook
Description

Fight for your nation’s supremacy in the Caribbean under French, Danish, Spanish, British or Dutch colours.

Released over 20 years ago, Corsairs gave you the chance to play as a privateer in the service of England, France or the Netherlands, seeking fame and fortune for your country. In Corsairs – Battle of the Caribbean, the strategy game reinvents itself in the ever-popular world of buccaneers, adding a welcome touch of modernity.

Tactical Naval Combat
- Command a fleet of 12 distinct ship types and engage in tactical naval battles where positioning, ship stats, and ammunition choice are decisive.
- Use 3 ammunition types, each with unique effects, to adapt your approach depending on the situation.
- Choose between 3 types of soldiers: Tanks, Gunners and Agiles to form the main force of your crew.

Fleet Progression & Upgrades
- Upgrade your ships, fleets, ports and buildings to improve key statistics and unlock new strategic possibilities.
- Careful investment decisions are essential to maintaining long-term dominance over trade routes and enemy forces.

Boarding & Ship Capture
- Engage in boarding actions to fight enemy crews in close-quarters combat.
- Boarding allows you to capture enemy ships instead of destroying them, forcing players to choose between quick elimination or higher-risk engagements to expand their fleet.

Dynamic Factions & Tactical Choices
- In addition to the major nations, pirate factions operate as independent third parties, creating unpredictable encounters and additional tactical decisions during matches.

Campaign Mode – Five Nations
- Play through five campaigns, representing France, England, Denmark, Spain and the Netherlands, each offering its own strategic challenges and objectives across the Caribbean.

Skirmish Mode
- Jump into Skirmish mode against AI opponents or other players online.
- Private and public matches are supported, with an Elo-based ranking system ensuring competitive matchmaking.

Good, but not like the old one

Its a good windward alike game, but its not like the old corsair. The ship combat lacks depth 2/5 Trade is almost non-sensical someone went easy on that, there's no eco or not that it matters like it used to for old one; once you have trader's port nearby there's no real point to go to any other one except relics... 2/5 Ship's crew / ammo is pretty much infinite/auto-replenished unlike in old one where you had to buy it. 2/5 Lack of decent pirates, and activity 1/5 The strat to winning is basically keep out off combat and trade... until you build few tier 3 ships, then just kill the enemy quickly. I wished for it to be more like the old one, but this is sadly some very simplified attempt.

Almost there!

So pretty much for any fan of Corsairs GOLD, yep we mostly get more of the same but modern. but there are 2 (in my opinion easily) fixable issues to get the game in line with the old one. Firstly is unit number in battles. in The old one you felt the advantage of a bigger ship or a well defended fort, here you get the standard under 20 characters regardless of ship. Secondly is the speed. I don't mind it in combat, but we should have an option to slow it down when sailing as currently it feels we are fighting with jet skis If those would get fixed it'd be a 5/5 for me

I hoped the best but unfortunately...

OK, I played the Corsairs Gold on my Windows 98SE PC with Pentium 3 450, 30Gb HDD, 4Gb RAM for about two years. Finished all the scenarios with all four factions, more than once each. It was a real RTS game. This game called as Corsairs Battle of the Caribbean is not an RTS. Because there is no strategy. It is obvious that the developers (I mean the real coder folks, not the investors or some company face men) made a good effort. The game is technically incredible. almost bug-free, shiny, solid. The problem is about the folks who wrote the user stories for the developers. Whoever the product owner is in the development office, he/she got it totally wrong. The result is a game like Last War: Survival, Kingshot, Whiteout Survival, etc... The ships are categorised in tiers. Ridiculous... This kills any strategy. Come on... Get tier-3 ship, kill everyone. If you are tier-1, you are down. Will you also introduce UR, SSR, SR corsairs for paid DLC? Too fast paced... Because obviously the product owner doesn't know anything about how to shoot a ship. He just clicks on "attack" button and leaves everything to the ship until one of the ships is destroyed. Hey, the ships stop right there and shoot each other until the other one sinks. Is this a joke? The ships in Corsairs Gold were at least trying to dodge each other. (But of course you were supposed to do everything manually, Why? because it was an RTS) Coffee is required to build a ship??? Destroy the fortress before boarding a city??? Why?? Kill the crew before boarding a ship?? Why??? Just a few men while boarding??? Why?? No strategy here. Those 2 starts are only for the coder developers over there. They did an excellent job. Well done folks. The product owner, data analyst, project manager (or whoever wrote those features and user stories): Maybe you should try your chance with some mobile, pay-to-win games.

Boring and frustrating

Boarding is boring, no way to use unit special skills to turn tide, just mass and rush. Ship fight lacks any strategy or sense. Economy, could be quite fun, but u just carry stuff manualny from city to city. No trade routes to build an engine. Pirates in campaign spawn randomly, ships class adjusted to yours. Build manowar and u get kota of such in map.

Didn`t start

First review? But not nice news. Game shows two company splash screens than black, and the cursor. No sound, no loading, nothing when alt-tab. Waited some minutes and nothing. Edit: Launched 18/05, now 20/05 there is a patch andressing the above issue. Putting aside the hype lost by this inconvinience, the game is good. Played, so far, the tutorial. A nice reread of the classic Corsairs. It manages to update the systens. Boarding has more things, the sea battles has more control, your ship automatic repair and replenish on a frindly port. Those are good aditions. But I understando the critics that it`s "fast peaced". You will not have time to manage your ships moves like some coordinate atack. It easily became a furball. You chose amunnition tipe, if board or not, and try to evade a board, but to fast to more. For me it`s similar to the original game. Not a problem. What makes it 4 starts is the trading. The classic one has, in my opinion, a more interesting system. You could see every settlement price of goods on a list. With this you decide some trade. Now you have some goods being produced, and go sell it somewere. And goods is a "resource". You need coffe to make a ship. It looks less like "trade" and more like a "game system".
