Description
Kisaragi Academy student Mayu Suzumoto is transferring to a new high school, leaving behind a sizable group of friends and countless lovely memories. To help her cope with this move, her friend Ayumi has devised a seemingly innocent plan: the whole group will come together to perform a charm she found on the internet called “Sachiko Ever After,” which is supposed to bind all of its participants together as friends to the end.

This does not go as expected.

Corpse Party is the original Windows edition of the cult classic horror game that gained a considerable fanbase when released on Sony’s PlayStation®Portable system in 2011. Beginning life as an independent RPG Maker adventure title in 1996, the gameplay was greatly refined and the story greatly expanded for this 2008 iteration, featuring more characters, more detailed interactions, darker story elements, over 5,000 lines of voice-acting and dozens of shocking, gruesome endings. Players take control of nine main characters and several side characters who’ve been split up into groups of two or three and trapped in a run-down, otherworldly elementary school full of vengeful spirits, deadly mysteries and – of course – corpses. As they walk around examining objects and bodies in an atmospheric 2D environment, a horror tale spanning over 50 years begins to unfold, and player choices determine both how the story ends and who lives to see it through.
  • Highly Detailed Retro-Style Graphics Used to Enhance Atmosphere
  • Adventure-Style Gameplay Where Your Decisions Make All the Difference
  • Chapter-Based Storytelling with PC-Exclusive Content and a retelling of the “Tooth” story from Corpse Party: Book of Shadows
  • Original Japanese Voice Cast and Character Art plus Text Skip Feature

Great game, bad version

The Corpse Party franchise is one of my all-time favorites. I have bought this installment to check it out on the 'big screen' (since the console versions are for handhelds) and boy was I disappointed. I tried to love it really hard but it misses so much of the things that originally got me hooked to more and more Corpse Party. The ambiance and the overall feel of the game is very very different without the voice acting, CGs, opening theme, music and various other things. I ultimately had to drop it after chapter 2, because it felt I was playing a different game altogether (a worse one). There are mods to restore some of the lost content but it is still not enough, at least it wasn't for me. And yes I know the original version was even worse, but honestly, if this would have been the one I have first played I probably wouldn't have even beat the game, let alone become the CP fanatic I am today. If you decide to play this instead of the handheld versions, you miss out on most of the CP experience. That aside, it is still a good game.

Heavenly Host? More like Devilly Host!

This game is brutal, it pulls no punches with it's horror and the atmosphere is in a word: terrifying. If you are at all sensitive to gore or sensitive subject matter steer clear, if however you are strong in courage and constitution I invite you to experience one of if not the best anime centric horror game you will find. You may want the 3DS version if you want some extra CGs and spruced up sprites. If you happen to be like me though and aren't massively into handheld gaming or don't have a 3DS then add to cart and proceed.

never able to finish it...

I am assuming that this version is the same as the PSP version, which I have downloaded. Apologies if not. I really like the game. The atmosphere, story, characters etc are all great. love playing during Halloween, too. The only issue I have is never being able to complete it which sucks since if you mess up, and you are not smart with how you save, you are in a world of hurt. Yes, I could use a guide, but one of my pet peeves is using guides because it kills the experience. I really love this game, I just wish it was more user friendly.

An amazing game

There's a reason why Corpse Party is considered a classic. It's well worth your time and money.

One of the early classics

Corpse Party is one of those rare games that is a competent game, but far more about emersing yourself in the plot and environment. It’s also obvious the developers understand how to tell a ghost story. As such this is a game I have to recommend anyone self-proclaimed horror fan give a shot. However, on the same tone, this is also a very niche game, and everyone else should probably stay away. Even if you are just curious why your friend loves horror games, you might be better starting somewhere else and come back once you “get it” if you do.
