Game is broken

This is a 5 star game if you can get it to work, but at its current state it does not. GOG needs to fix this at once!

Castle invasions+tournaments most fun !!

based on past experiences: (below are numerised attractions of this game!) Tip/cheat: at end of text that you'll need to win jousts! This game has several fun parts that are all combined a medieval experience that is (mostly) great! if you meet an untimely end the narrator if I recall correctly will comment on your progress achieved and the way you died while a book slowly closes. thats just one cinimatic of a few. (dieing because the dragon ate you is another example :P ) pretty cool. NOTE: their are several weapon and armor (such as full plate) that you can find in the game through castle exploration of an enemy. 1:castle invasion!! great wolvenstein esq gameplay but with swords, you get castles to explore ( or defend!) you'll search every room for that better weapon or armor while a few hand picked men accompay you as you hack down all resistance. 2.tournaments: you can either go jousting (with or without a ladie's color wich shows their favour) or you can go on a rampage in a wooden enclosere with several other fighters duking it out. 3. castle kingdom simulation: the standerd tropes but somwhat appealing send huge force to castle to take it altough I think you actually have to go in the castle (castle invasion) yourself to actually capture it. 4 be a courageous knight and collect magic items (armor andd especially the (blessed?) lance!) and challange the dragon!! very hard! the somwhat excusable downsides: the map is a very dated in its appeal and representation of troops. the AI is stupid and the ghrapics are very poor overall. cheat/tip: when you figured out the correct spot for where to point your jousting lance put a small sticker there...heh you win each time.... I did find that the dragon was not so easy to lance though...yikes that cinematic if the dragon gets you...

Harvest crops, buy sword, kill the King

Played this one in 1997 or around, so my review is based on that experience. At that time I really loved the game and atmosphere, but due to the lack of English knowledge it was very hard to follow different missions/quests (dragon hunting). So, the way I finished the game was the following: 1) raise and harvest crops, 2) go out of the castle and buy the best armor and sword available, 3) attack the King's castle (I always ended up in war with him due to inability to follow assigned missions ), but without army vs. army fight (you have to be quick enough to end up with a castle melee fighting, 4) kill the King with the sword in melee battle. I think I should buy it now on GOG and try again, I really want to explore the dragon quest part of the game and understand the castle building part as well. I recon that tactical army fights lacked mechanics and were brutally straightforward and boring. But something in this game is really involving, try it. Middle ages, a lot of different genres: adventure, kind of RPG, tactics, strategy, 3D melee and tournaments. Some of these parts are funny and worked, some did not. In the end of 90s it was something really new and amazing.

Fun Classic Once It Has Been Tweaked

I remember buying this game from the $5 bargain bin at Toys R Us in the 90s, but I was too young to understand how to play Conqueror. Fast forward 30+ years later, and I think that it definitely stands the test of time despite its ancient graphics and clunky controls. Pros: - This game is a cool synthesis of different genres, combining RPG, FPS, RTS, and city building elements into one game. - This game has two different paths, and they're both equally fun. One is focused on conquest of England, leading up to an epic showdown with King William the Conqueror in his throne room. The other is about slaying the Dragon, and it involves a lot of questing and talking to NPCs. - Castle assaults and jousting are my two favorite modes in this game. - The courtship with the ladies and the banter with knights in the Tavern are fun and well-written. - You can choose to start with a pre-generated character or create your own. But the cool thing about character creation is that you are given dilemmas in your childhood that will potentially affect your stats and starting equipment. There are some tough choices to be made and there's a lot of variety. CONS: - This game will likely not work at first. You need to make some modifications in the configuration file. I was able to google a solution. - This game's economics are not intuitive. I had to read a walkthrough to understand which buildings and hirelings generate more revenue. - The pointer for the overland map is wonky, making travel across large distances frustrating. - Switching between your knight and your army is also a pain. You can attach your knight to your army to make travel easier, but you can't come close to castles with an army without instigating a feudal war. This is a big deal because tournaments are only held at castles belonging to powerful overlords. Overall, this is worth picking up if you're a fan of 90s RPGs.

Nostalgia for Sierra's earlier days

For all of its flaws, still a great nostalgia trip.
