Clear the sand from your weapon and keep out of sight. You are officially in the middle of the most heart-stopping, realistic, tactical action experience ever created! Battle your way through the Gulf War as one of the elite U.S. Delta Force or British SAS operators. From the in-depth artificial intelligence of your enemies to the amazingly realistic environments, this one's got it all. Welcome to Desert Storm!
Conflict: Desert Storm is a first/third-person shooter that features modern military operations. You take control of a four-man squad: sniper, rifleman, demolitions expert, and heavy weapons expert. You must use their abilities wisely either by giving them orders or assuming direct control. In addition to that there is an excellent multiplayer mode in which you can challenge your friends on numerous maps and gameplay modes. This game is an excellent choice for someone looking for a solid military shooter with strong tactical elements.
Join up to 7 friends in multiplayer mode and fight through many available modes including deathmatch, team deathmatch, assassination, and more.
Develop your squad through each mission, increasing their combat abilities.
Detailed and realistic missions designed by a former SAS officer are as fun as they are informative.
Conflict: Desert Storm
Gameplay: 6/10 - Clunky enemies and game play design however the items you can use such as guns, grenades all feel very good to use in addition to the movement.
Customisability: 3/10 - Basic settings, no controller use.
Graphics: 5/10 For a game from 2002 the graphics are are quite good just don't expect to be blown away.
Online: 6/10 - Fortunately there is online multi player but it is direct to host matches (no server browser).
Overall: 3/5 - Its a good game for the $2.99 I paid for it and brings back alot of younger memories.Buy it if you enjoy tactical games such as rainbow six and are looking for something new to enjoy.
i remember playing this game years ago, on my xbox. the game at the time had a fair story, fair action and fair adventure. it was great for its time, and is now a piece of childhood memories for some of us aging gamers. miss the gold old days :D
As a Hidden & Dangerous fan I was very happy to discover Conflict: Desert Storm back in the day. Another tactical shooter where you control four elite soldiers that you can seamlessly switch between and give orders to.
Admittedly C:DS suffers from a variety of issues, at least some of which can be attributed to the game's console origins. The graphics were already mediocre back then, character proportions and animations appear almost comedic, aiming feels very weird, giving orders or exchanging equipment literally couldn't be any worse and the audio quality is a bad joke. The biggest problem is probably the comparably shallow gameplay and infinitely respawning enemies, many of the mechanics are also far more abstract than you'd want them to be in a tactical military shooter.
As such the first impression you get is that C:DS is as mediocre as it gets. However, as I decided to give the game a genuine chance and play it a little longer I ended up beating the whole campaign and had a blast. You get used to all its clunkiness and very "gamey" mechanics and ultimately do discover both a surprisingly tactical and exciting experience. The game often puts a lot of pressure on you with seemingly infinite streams of enemies coming from all directions with some APCs and tanks thrown in and these seemingly hopeless situations are where the game shines. With limited ammo and a small squad success is determined by good positioning of your men and by acting quick and performing decisive strikes. And coordinating attacks of all your men with their different roles and switching between them and saving each others' butts just never gets old. Despite not being as "good" as Hidden & Dangerous ironically C:DS is the far more fun game out of the two. If you're looking for a military simulator stay away but if you want a tactical third person shooter more similar to Freedom Fighters this is a game worth your time. And it's a welcome change from all the CoD-ish war shooters out there.
Issues:
* Can't Load - Although you can "save" and it shows UI saying its saved, its not possible to load any save files. Not sure if its a windows 10 problem or just the general PC version.
* Physics issues - Sometimes the characters have trouble coming off surfaces. Apparently this is caused by high framerates. Would be good if the game had an out the box solution which capped the frame rate.
* Controller - The game is partially playable with an xbox one controller. I guess this is good to see as I don't imagine the original had support on PC. However I had problems with changing inventory and aiming. Much easier to just stick with mouse and keyboard.
The Positives:
Its the same old game that you enjoyed as a kid. It runs fine out the box, just without some modern conveniences such as HD resolution support.
I am not too much into shooters but i like the look of this game. I have little experience so far (just played the tutorials) but it's already a lot of fun. I installed this on my netbook which i use for travel and it runs great....
