Description

Evolving singleplayer campaign
Fight in the evolving singleplayer campaign and make a difference in a conflict of global proportions. After the Iran-US RQ170 incident, in which a UAV was hacked and captured through cyber warfare, the US army secretly revived the development of the RAH-66 helicopter program for special operations. The goal was to develop a highly maneuverable and advanced stealth war machine capable of deploy low-range drones operating in high-risk environments.
The program was a total success, and the Comanche special units seemed unstoppable in their missions. But then, when the blueprints leaked through a whistleblower website, every group, and power, who could afford it, built and modified the Comanche for their purposes. With that, a new era of helicopter warfare had begun.

... but beware of the hardware requirements! For more than 1080p (low/middle settings with turned off post-process and low shadows) the Vega 8/10 integrated graphics won't be enough.
Some good points:
+ graphics and sounds are top quality
+ the game has a tutorial mission, that will show you all the basics
+ missions bassed single-player experience, played through the first two missions, didn't encounter any bug(s) yet
+ playable with Mouse + Keyboard combo or gamepad (tried with and old X-Input/Xbox360 chinese clone gamepad)
I didn't try the multiplayer.
The offline-installer version in GOG library shows version 0.96a as of time of writing.
Tested on Windows 10 Home 64-bit 21H1, AMD Ryzen 7 4750G with Radeon VEGA 8, 32 GB RAM DDR4 3200 MHz, Crucial 1 TB SSD SATA.
For these, who liked the old helicopter action games like Super Huey, different Apache etc. action games, this will be a very good experience.
👌
Not that I've played many helicopter games, but I went into Comanche not having played any of the previous Comanche games, so I had no expectations or comparisons. Now, I do understand why someone looking for an attack helicopter simulator could be disappointed with this one, as it indeed is suited for an arcade experience. And by 'arcade', I mean the type of controls and gameplay options included here.
The visuals are good, sound is good, the story thus far is intriguing - freelance mercenary good guys up against secretive, well financed terror organization type stuff.
The kinds of vehicles you fly are varied, with cloaking 'copters, heavier attack style 'copters and even remote piloted drones of various sorts at your disposal.
So don't hate me hardcore Comanche fans, but I'm enjoying playing this one.
While the Comanche franchise from Novalogic could be best described as Sim-lite, this game is a full on arcade action game. That said, it is at least fun even if the first 2 levels are too long.

Can't change language without changing OS language. Insanity.
Especially since the German Translation is abysmal.
"Thrust Right" => "Feuer Rechts" yea... right...
Consider it 3,5 Stars. I used to play Comanche 3/Gold (1998) a lot, so I finally tried this one (only Singelplayer).
On the upside: Graphics and the flight feeling are really good - gotta tweak the controls to your liking though. I endet up playing with mouse and keybord. About the graphics: There are a lot of rocks … everywhere. And like a lot of modern games they tend to have this „plastic“ look because engines are relying on shaders today. In some levels it looks great, but often it looks like they glued the same rock formation all over the place.
The 7 mission campaign isn´t long but with the latest Patch came another 11 Mission campaign called „Conflicts“ which I found to be better anyways. There is more variety to it, also the graphics look more balanced, scaled (some things seemed way to big) and more detailed. You will have to play some of this missions again to unlock achievements and further levels – Challenge but also tideous. The Drone-feature gets annoying eventually, but in some missions it feels better implemented.
On the downside I gotta say there is a lot wasted potential. No Wingmen to command. No airstrikes. Explosions are nice, but you only can shoot things you are meant to. Also: if you differ from the flight path, mission fails. No D-tour or exploring terrain from a different angle. No proper briefings with a map, where you could get familiar with the terrain. No weapons loadout. You can´t target one specific vehicle you want – it always targets the nearest enemy next to your cursor (kind of chaotic). Sometimes for a mission you just get another version of the Comanche, for instance the Stealth version (yeah, i know…) where you hit the button and Voila - you are hidden. I mean, where is the fun in that?
Don´t get me wrong - it´s a good game. I am only complaining because this could have been more. Just don´t expect another Comanche 3/Gold. By the way: There is a proper HD-Mod for the old classic. Hope this helped.
Cheers.
