What a horrible night to have a curse!

Someone should have warned the Covenant children: “Never read aloud strange rituals.” Little did they know that their childish game would unleash unspeakable horrors upon the unsuspecting world. Now, many years later, Jeremiah Covenant, the last sane sibling, lies on his deathbed knowing his fragile existence is the only thing restraining the curse. His only hope is Patrick Galloway, a fellow soldier from the Great War and a specialist in abolishing evil abominations.

Welcome to Clive Barker’s Undying, a horrifying FPS romp of curses, strange, mad creatures, and family dysfunction gone terribly wrong. Step into the shoes of Patrick Galloway as you attempt to banish the evil using your arcane magic and the ever-dependable six shooter of metal grace. Pray to whatever god you believe in because this journey may end up costing your soul. First person shooter meets the contemporary master of horror fiction, don't miss it!

great atmosphere

[review based on original CD version] One of the rare horror games that succeeds at creating chills and suspense without relying on sudden shocks. Attacks and hauntings can appear without warning, but the game's main appeal is the carefully crafted visuals and sounds you experience as you explore. There's a real sense of place and time; you will feel you are in a time-worn supernatural mansion, not a generic series of corridors. Gameplay is challenging. Weapons are powerful but unwieldy, and attacks can stagger you. There's rarely a sense that you are in command of your surroundings, which suits the survival horror theme perfectly. There are also many hidden easter eggs, including Bat Galaga and an unusual sheep. It's worth the extra effort to track down a list. Undying was criticized for bogging down in the second act and rushing the ending. Although I didn't make it all the way through, I felt the middle slipped from the tighter pacing of the beginning. But the beginning is so well done, the rest of the game is unlikely to leave you feeling like you wasted your time and money. Easily one of GOG's best shooters.

Genre Classic

Shamefully undersold when it was released, and unfortunately not too well-known. I hold this right up there with Half-Life and Deus Ex. Flexible gameplay allows you to upgrade particular spells over others, adding an rpg flavor. Offers a good amount of challenge, with it's tiny hit boxes and tricky enemy AI. If you like horror and FPS, buy this game!!!

Clive Barker's Unfuning

I really liked the premise and would have been able to stomach the game if it wasn't just plain unfun. Again I really enjoyed the setup, the setting, and the atmosphere but at every turn the gameplay itself was battling these really cool story features and it just became too much a bore. 1st - Enemy melee attacks cause you to turn in a random direction, losing camera control. What the hell? When surrounding the player character from jump scare enemies and constantly resurrecting skeletons why make it even MORE a chore to slog through the combat? 2nd - Unlimited enemy spawns....sometimes. But you never know when! Bug or Feature? Either way it seems these moments are part of the game. These are not true "events" either but can happen when exploring at any given moment it seems. 3rd - Horrible, horrible, terrible menu system. Seriously. Plenty of worthless items, bad spells, and throwaway weapons. 4th - Clunky shooter mechanics. This would have been better as a point and click adventure. Why even bother doing combat if it will so damn poor? The stellar ratings are due to rose colored goggles the GOG community are liable to wear. This game sold incredibly poorly for an obvious reason and should be left to rot in some foreboding Irish Moore.

A never aging classic !

This isn't a symply shooting horror game, it has a soul and will make you move in one of the best scripts ever wrote on pc games ! The gamepkay is a First person hybrid between an RPG and an Action Shooting Game, focused more on its action elements than RPG to help you live your in-game experience smoothly ! The narrative is beautiful and is from one of the best horror/Fantasy authors of the 90s, known for his famous wide screen adapted books like Hellraiser and Covenant. CONCLUSION Time has passed but this remain one of the best Action Fantasy Horror games of the new millennium ! BUY IT !

"Hidden Gem"

Clive Barker's Undying is a really unique game, to say the least. Overall the dark atmosphere of the game is a treat for every horror fans out there, it's so well made it's hard to not feel fully immerged in Patrick Galloway's journey. The storyline is really good and the mystery surrounding the Convenant familly makes you want to play the game more and more. There are so many things to do, so many locations to explore, ennemies to fight, weapons to use, spells to learn, the game always have something new for you and it's great. Using a weapon with one hand and magic with the other is a great idea and the fact that you need to use some spells to reach new areas or found secrets is pretty clever. This game is amazing and if you've never played it before just do it now, it's totally worth the price !
