What a horrible night to have a curse!

Someone should have warned the Covenant children: “Never read aloud strange rituals.” Little did they know that their childish game would unleash unspeakable horrors upon the unsuspecting world. Now, many years later, Jeremiah Covenant, the last sane sibling, lies on his deathbed knowing his fragile existence is the only thing restraining the curse. His only hope is Patrick Galloway, a fellow soldier from the Great War and a specialist in abolishing evil abominations.

Welcome to Clive Barker’s Undying, a horrifying FPS romp of curses, strange, mad creatures, and family dysfunction gone terribly wrong. Step into the shoes of Patrick Galloway as you attempt to banish the evil using your arcane magic and the ever-dependable six shooter of metal grace. Pray to whatever god you believe in because this journey may end up costing your soul. First person shooter meets the contemporary master of horror fiction, don't miss it!

Jump scares - that work

This game has got to be one of my all-time favorite games. I'm not much for horror movies but love horror-themed video games. This game is responsible for this. Within the first few minutes of the game, there is a jump scare that, for someone who doesn't startle easily, scared the hell out of me. It was great! I cannot give an honest estimate of how many times I've played since release, but each time, it's been years apart and it's still a blast to play. There's quite a lot going on in this game, from the intro to the end, there are things in plain sight as well as hidden. When you first take control of your character, simply turning around and walking to the gate reveals stuff you wouldn't expect. This game is responsible for me becoming a "look everywhere for everything" type player and for good reason. It's a fantastic game that, if any game truly deserves a remaster, this would be it. The story, gameplay mechanics, and voice acting are top shelf and would definitely fill a gap in horror gaming, especially with everything today being zombie-based.

More than scary.

This title has a lot of unique elements in standard FPS play through. And thus they made difference. During game play, you need to choose weapon and spell to confront your enemy. Each of them has pros & cons and your choice would make battles easier sometimes. It may sound difficult. Actuary I felt that way before I finally installed this game. However, thanks to the well structured game play, these uniqueness are not troublesome. On the contrary, making strategies to defeat unholy monsters has different kind of fun comparing to other FPS games. And script is really working well especially when they tries to scare you. There are hundreds of gimmicks to freeze your blood. Those who love horror games definitely like them. It's one of the best horror FPS in the market. Speaking of the game from Clive Berker, I bloody love "Jericho", but to be honest I've felt "Undying" is much better than that. What a surprise! Horror fans and FPS fans should get this gem!!

A surprising gem of a game!

When this first came out I was a bit put off my the Clive Barker name attached to it, mainly because I've never liked his horror writing style (perhaps I was too spoilt on HP Lovecraft, I dunno). But others recommended it to me regardless of that and so I purchased it not expecting much from it. I'm glad I did buy it, because it's a superb game to play. I may not like Clive Barker's novels but, in my opinion, he does make a much better games writer. It captures a good sense of atmosphere, and that's something few games then (and now) can do. It's a game which shows that EA was once a publisher of fine content and knew what gamers wanted (unlike now). So grab a download of this game from GoG, you shouldn't be disappointed, because they seem to have it on at a good price as well. I may even download a copy of it myself at some point, even though I still own my retail verson of it :)

Phenomenal

Despite its age, Undying stands as one of the greatest horror stories told in a game to date. Dated combat aside, the amazing level design, characters, and eerie ambience allow this game to hold its own even in ages past its own technological prime. Make sure you read the family album before playing. The terror is in the tale. Masterpiece.

Fond memories

This is the only horror game that I have played that caused me to feel any actual fear. (The only other title that could come close might be the first FEAR. And Amnesia, but that is a different tale entirely.) Excellent story and good graphics for its time, this is a game I highly recommend for anyone looking for a good, classic horror title. That being said, don't grab Clive Barker's Jericho if you enjoy this game. There was no fear in that one.
