This is really bad
Lets begin with the positive. The Graphics are fine, typical for french games, bright, often over saturated and the soft focus is not helping at all. It's making things blurry at times, but overall, as said, it’s fine The characters are maybe the best part of this, most have an interesting backstory, the voiceacting and design is good, at best I could nitpick in this section. The music is overproduced and leans to the classic side of things. You really need to like some high female voice crying in your ear if you want to get something out of this. I really hated it, but I guess enough people liked it and as said, the production value is high, so that one is probably just me. The story is an unmitigated mess and makes no sense inside and outside the worlds logic, Act 1 is fine, it’s all downhill after that. Even the premise to send out an expedition every year to reach the paintress to stop her, with the idea every expeditions paves the way for the next one is so obviously foolish, there are plenty of better ways to manage this. The foreseeable plot twist comes way to late and the sidequest to explore the characters more happen afterwards when they really don't matter any more. They are very much misplaced in act 3, so whoever put this together probably can’t even spell narrative flow. There is some decision making from the creative staff that just makes no sense. Another thing that really irritates is the way they try to mix drama and humor. On the one hand we get 4 suicide attempts, and on the other hand silly jokes and memes. Tons of bloody corpses and the death of an unborn child, and on the other side cringe jokes. It really doesn’t fit together. The battlesystem is a complete disappointment, all you have to get right is a series of quick time events, yeah that’s never cool, but somehow this game is supposed to get away with it. All the setup you do with your characters is minor stuff, just hit that old QTE dodge button at the right time and you’ll be fine, allthough some attack sequenzes are so long, you will slip up at some point. Nevertheless, this way, even though this is supposed to be turnbased, this game kind of transforms itself to be an action RPG. Another observation, having the (typical french) over animated attack sequenzes seems to only be there, to waste more of your time. Speaking of wasting time, the open world is pretty empty when you take a closer look. There are tons of optional opponents spread out on the map, but for a map this big, it's not all that much in the end. Since fights are this one note dodge feast, it gets repetitive as hell. Just like with the tone, they should have choosen a lane here, turn based or action, serious drama or fun adventure. I played this game rather intensively, since I really wanted to see why this gets such a high rating, got every optional boss, pushed myself trough all the content and saw the two endings, and It's all not worth it. Seriously why this game gets this amount of praise is a big mystery. I would tell anyone to just save your money and buy something else.
