Fine, but lacking
Was looking for a casual, cartoony restaurant sim game, and saw a number of online articles mention Chef so I thought i'd give it a try. Simple enough premise: start a restaurant, buy a stove and some tables, hire a waiter, try to tailor your menu for certain customer types, profit and expand While the core is there, that's about it. Even then, it feels like props are missing. No cash registers or greeter stands, no bathrooms (even though customers will complain about them), no dishes (even though there are dishwashers), etc.. I haven't checked out the DLC to see if they added that stuff into it. It feels like some of these things should be in the base game To expand your menu offerings, unlock ingredients with points. I don't remember how they accumulate, but they do. When you hover the mouse over the points, there's no tooltip explaining how they accumulate so pay close attention during the tutorial. Menu items will show up when you unlock the right combination of ingredients and skill points, but there is nothing to indicate what you need exactly to unlock them or what recipes are even available to potentially unlock. They just suddenly appear as a potential menu offering when you do The tutorial will tell you about certain furnishings and decor that will attract certain types of customers. Eventually, when you get dishwashers and AC, that adds to something called general ambience, so customers of all types will show up regardless. Paintings for the decor seem to be a lot of stock photo library pics, so they clash a bit with the cartoony vibe. You can not add or remove walls/windows, so you can't customise your place that much. When you place any item, it will assume you want to place more than one. Press ESC or click its pic to stop placing it. Also good luck trying to edit anything already down because it seems to take issue with that Overall, it's fine but could use more polish and production value
