Adorable... until you hit the grind

I really wanted to love this game. It has many nice qualities: adorable art, comfy concept, charming setting and characters. But... ugh, the grind! And no, I don't mean the coffee kind. The gameplay loop consists of attracting specific types of customers, each of which reward you with their unique currency. Each type of currency is then used to buy certain types of items which (ideally) improve your cafe. As an example, Fishermen give Fish, which is used to buy items for your cats. But here's the grind: every item costs way too much! And the devs decided to make the Businesspeople's currency (Gems) used in combination with other currencies, for almost every item. So you will *always* need gems. There isn't any sane cost scaling either - you'll have to decide between a tiny cat toy, or a deep fryer. Because you only have enough gems for ONE item after slaving away for an entire game day. And that's with additional staff, staff and cats leveled up correctly, meeting customer's needs, only attracting customers with desired currency... after all that, I could only afford *one* item! Perhaps if you approach this game with a mobile game or automation mindset it would be passable. However, for someone who approached this as an active, hands-on game, all my efforts reduced to only affording one item a day felt like a kick in the hoo-ha. I also found advancing the social bonds with the regulars is poorly balanced. The game constantly reminds you that you can invite them, but doesn't warn that with each bonding level increase, an entire class of customer will become more demanding. And if you can't meet their expectations at this new level, your income will tank. It was also disappointing that the staff sprites have identical clothes/poses/body types. And always holding a serving tray, even when out of business hours. Not sure if I recommend this in its current state, unless you love grind as much as you love cats.

It's cute at least

The premise of the game is cute and the gameplay loop is fun. But it's balanced in a really weird way that stops the player from having too much fun or doing things how they want to. Basically there are 6 types of clientele and they each pay in their own unique currency. Every one of these currencies is required, which means that to play the game "correctly" you must appeal to all 6 groups simultaneously. So you can't just have a cozy tea room for witches or a hipster coffee bar all on its own, you are all but required to have a big mishmash of everything. I imagine just about every player's cafe ended up being the same confusing pub-diner-retro-magical-hunting-lodge, especially if they couldn't afford the decorations they actually wanted. The currency progression is really slow as other reviewers have mentioned. I just used Cheat Engine to give myself more money and the game was a lot better for it. One last thing - Arvel spouts a bunch of swearing, out of nowhere? I had assumed this game was kid-friendly and was playing it along with my 7 y/o, but like, my mistake I guess?

needs updates!

the game is really cute funny and relaxing. but its super short. i finished it in 2 days, around 10h or less. it needs more objectives. a new shrine, a new city, a new cafe.... just keep adding more cities and receipes like all the mobile cooking games do and it'll be perfect. some needs - a way to put doors on side walls would be really useful. and sometimes it will say "customer cant reach seat" - it should let me know which seat it is talking about. or when my staff has a "ccant go there" baloon, same thing - i should be let known where and why. also, a way to sort thru my itens would be useful; like filter to see oinly the chairs, tables, by style, etc. and oh its a cat game!!! and theres barely any cat shaped/inspired itens!!!! now, i found a few bugs here and there. sometimes, when i try to place the same chair a second time at another table, and i try to rotate it, it also rotates the chair i first put down. also, some stuff is just not leaving the floor even when i delete it - still pops up a "already occupied" notice. and sometimes my inventory will open up and take my ENTIRE screen, so i cant place anything down.

Lovely and relaxing!

Don't worry about leveling friendships too fast and not being able to keep up with the customer demands :) The game tells you as you level the first friendship to level 2 that now the customers of that type will ask for more, and if its too stressful you can hold out on calling regulars (which will stop the friendship leveling) until you are ready for the next group to level up :) If you do level friendships too high to be able to cater to their needs, don't worry, there's no punishment for having unhappy customers. You will still earn currency, so just keep working and you'll very quickly get enough to fulfill their needs. Examine them or check the info at the end of the day and you'll see what your cafe is missing. Half the fun of running a cafe is working towards making your customers happy :) The other half is all the cute cats! You can raise the amount of currency you get in different ways, for example by advertising to only the customer types that you most need currency from at that moment. That will vastly increase the speed you can buy things in. I usually focus on nectar/gems/gold and switch nectar for one of the others when I need. When really in need, a whole day of only one type of customer will bring in lots! Leveling your cats can unlock traits that can make the customers pay more, and raising friendships will let you earn more and more from customers as they level up :) It won't take long before the money is rolling in! The lil stories are sweet and hilarious, and the characters well-written :) I especially appreciate how they all act like proper friends and don't bite your head off when you don't agree with them fully and actually listen and think about your point of view. Nice to not have to walk on egg shells and be able to reply how I feel. The game developers give good support as well, through a ticket system on their Discord :) A very cozy game with sweet music and a lovely art style! Also, you can keep playing after the end of the game :)

Very cute, but lackluster long term.

The idea and gameplay for this game was very cute. But it took me 11 hours and 51 minutes to complete the storyline. Shop items, and cooking resources became tediously grind-y. I beat the game without ever unlocking cats from the second lure up, cooking anything above second level recipes, or raising my friendships above level 5. I just feel like something is missing in the balance of the game. I also would have liked shop items to be a bit cheaper, as I really never got to use most of the decorations either. Would like to see a balance update or rework in the future!
