Description
A TILE PLACEMENT GAME OF CREATING LANDSCAPES, CLAIMING AREAS, AND GAINING POINTS

Carcassonne is a modern classic tile-placement game based on the award wining game in which the players draw and place a tile with a piece of southern French landscape on it. The tile might feature a city, a road, a cloister, grassland or some combination thereof, and it must be placed adjacent to tiles that have already been played, in such a way that cities are connected to cities, roads to roads, et cetera. The player can then decide to place one of his followers, so called Meeples, on one of the areas on it: on the city as a knight, on the road as a robber, on a cloister as a monk, or on the grass as a farmer. When that area is complete, that meeple scores points for its owner. Each new game is a new experience thanks to the ever-changing landscape.

ENJOY FUN AND TACTICAL GAMEPLAY

During a game of Carcassonne, players are faced with decisions like: "Is it really worth putting my last meeple there?" or "Should I use this tile to expand my city, or should I place it near my opponent instead, making it harder for him to complete his goal and score points?" Since players place only one tile and have the option to place one meeple on it, turns proceed quickly even if it is a game full of options and possibilities.

Has DRM

The game includes a "free" mini-expansion, The Abbott, that is only enabled once you create a multiplayer account with the publisher and sign in to enable it.

Ok but a mobile-port

This game is not made for PC. The GUI is HUUUUUUGE! You can't rotate the world Charging extra for "The river" which comes included with the board game is just cheap. I bought this when it was down 40-50% and that's what I consider fair for a game that I already own a physical copy of and what is essentially a port from iOS or Android

not worth it

I'm a great fan of the analogue Carcassonne series, but even purchasing this digital copy for $5 I must say I felt robbed. It bothers me a great deal that the game doesn't offer any options what so ever in terms of customizing your game (in a physical copy you'd be able to decide what tiles to include in the session or for how many turns you want to play, number of players or whatever, but here there's almost nothing. My main consern though is that the game always remind you of what expansions there are out there that you don't have, including "buy now" options in-game. So buying this game is just a demo filled with adverts for extra payment options to expand your game. It doesn't give any impression to be the (arguably) full game in itself that it well is. Now for a somewhat strange remark: This digital copy does nothing to help the feeling of randomness when pulling new tiles. By this I mean that an analogue copy would have every individual tile, while anonymous, still respresenting itself. All tiles randomly selected into a number of determined orders. This way, stacking the analogue tiles into two or more seperate draw piles would offer a choice for the player, rendering an illusion of less randomness. Here, in the digital copy, I'm not even conviced the tiles are randomly sorted in a determined order, but I think that they are actually "randomly" selected upon every draw phase. Now, I have no proof of this but, I also think that this "random" generator works with some help; I can't help but feeling that I pull bonuses in Mario Kart. When I'm doing well already I'm being punished by the AI and when I'm doing bad the AI tries to boost my game, knowing what I'm waiting for and what I need, so I think it's mathematically balancing the game which in turn actually diminishes the need for me to make any plans what so ever to my moves. Mathematically, this wouldn't even matter, but this digital game doesn't really entangled my concentration as I feel it could have.

Fun but has some DRM

This is a fun and classic game and this implementation has a nice user interface and a pleasant feel to it. I like that some expansions are available too. I just plain enjoy this game on the tabletop and the computer so this was a very welcome title to be able to get. I really like that board games are getting some ports to the computer! I'm happy to support any board game port to the computer like this. I don't like the 3D perspectives though. It's a board game, so 2D top down is best, but this game does allow a good top down camera angle, so that is a fair compromise and the game is easy to see from the top down angle. The graphics are quite crisp for a 3D rendered game. I would love to see more board games like Catan, Memoir 44 and Small World. HOWEVER - this game does have a little DRM unfortunately. Shame on you! To get the Abbot expansion you have to connect to the internet and make an account. BOO!!! I don't mind the Abbot being given away free to people who want to do this, but PLEASE let me just buy the Abbot expansion so I can be sure to have it in my collection. I never connect my game machine to the internet, so this kind of DRM is a deal breaker if it grows.

Great boardgame! (could be improved...)

Very good implementation, with loads of settings for rules and how you want to play. I've had this for years on my Android tablet, and I must say it's maybe a little more suited for a large tablet, but it works just the same on pc so all is good. If you don't like the 3d-view you can set it to 2d, and if you don't like all auto-zoom you can disable that too! There are 4 different AI-types, that also give you varying challenges when playing solo. I've only played solo (you could also add several human players for pass and play), and it's a perfect game to pick up and play a 10-15 minute match if you've got nothing else to do! Strangely you can't change names for either human nor AI players, which is very odd! There is a tutorial, and it's a pretty simple game to learn, but if you feel you've missed something it's easy to google up some other tutorial/guide. Only real annoying aspect of this game (except that you can't change player names) is that it has a very loud fanfare playing at the start of each match, and lowering game sounds (music/effects) doesn't affect it at all. Same at end of each match. Very annoying, but sounds/music aren't great anyway so I just play with in-game-volume turned way up and then mastervolume on pc/amp very low. But very odd they don't seem to have any sound-QC picking this up yet, since it's the same on old Android-version!
