Story
Following the events of Call of the Machine, The Machine was left trapped in the Void — a dimension between worlds. Isolated from time and space, with no way back to his own reality, he drifts in the darkness until he is contacted by an ancient, consciousness: one of the Vadrigar, gods of the Arena Eternal. The Vadrigar reveals that the Strogg, in their post-defeat dimensional explorations, have imprisoned fellow Vadrigar once defeated by a mortal and other creatures from the Dreamlands, using them as raw material. Through their biomechanical technology, the Strogg have begun creating a new army of hybrids: demons enhanced with implants, gods turned into living generators, ogres fused with precision weaponry. Their goal is clear: to resume the war against humanity, this time with an impossible legion.
This profanation is not only a threat, but a direct offense to all of the opposing factions among the Vadrigar. They cannot intervene directly… but they can use The Machine as their instrument of retribution. In exchange for being freed from the Void and returned to his own dimension, he accepts one final mission: travel to the convergent dimension forged by Strogg technology, where the times and realms of Quake 1 and Quake 2 are merging, and destroy the hybrid army before it can invade human reality. Along the way, he must navigate demon-infested temples laced with Strogg machinery, factories where biomechanical monstrosities are assembled, and war zones where the last remnants of each realm struggle to survive. In his path lie what remains of Chthon and Shub-Niggurath, now enslaved and twisted beyond recognition by technology.

Feels like the original games
Call of the Void is a good mod for the Quake 2 remaster. It runs smoothly and looks pretty nice. The downside is that the campaign added to the mod is very short. However, this makes this mod accessible even to the busiest people. Thanks to the mod developers and GOG!

A great mashup that makes sense
After the last expansion it was an interesting concept to combine both Quake games and this has achieved that mission. -1 star for the compass item not working, at least at launch.

An unforgettable experience
I absolutely love Call of the Void, a Quake II mod that brilliantly blends the dark gothic vibe of Quake I with the industrial sci-fi of Quake II. From the moment I started playing, the hybrid enemies, clever map layouts, and perfectly tuned difficulty kept me on my toes and made every fight feel tense and rewarding. The music and environments hit me with just the right amount of nostalgia without ever feeling like simple fan-service, and even with a few minor balance quirks, the whole experience felt polished, ambitious, and totally worth it—a must-play for any classic shooter fan like me.

Utterly fantastic mod
Great love letter to a series we all love! Felt way cooler then everything else that Bethesda has done with the franchise. Glad to see this here!
