good overlooked adventure

It's a traditional point-and-click adventure game with a unique setting and explicit tie-ins to the Cthulhu mythology. Regular World War 2 soldiers face unstoppable alien horrors and struggle to find a solution. Timing is an important factor in some puzzles, and I remember having to turn to a walkthrough a few times. The game has some rough edges and the production isn't the very best of its era. But it left a favorable impression overall. Without spoiling it, the story takes a lot of unexpected turns and has a satisfying conclusion. GOG's screenshots are spoilerific, so if you like what you see in the first few, don't worry about the rest. I played the original release and can't comment on the quality of this one. Others are reporting serious problems, so check that it's working before you buy.

DO NOT BUY IN CURRENT FORM...

Unfortunately, whether you have a Mac or a PC, the infamous bug is still there. If you try to play through and not save, the autosave will get you anyway, so there's no way out...On a Mac it's a real pain trying to unpick the DOSBOX stuff from the .app files, so until GOG pull their fingers out, I can't recommend you spend your dosh on this one. Nice intro, though.

Fantastic gem of a game!

This is a great game! The voice-acting's a bit hokey, but it's a great story with good puzzles. It's Cthulhu and nazis: what more do you want!? It's great!

Bug

Good game. But just as Kris has stated, the game crashes immediately as soon as you try to save...thus not playable.

The Infamous Bug Still Exists!

First of all, I'm beyond excited to see one of my favourite DOS games is re-released on GOG. This news made my day! However, Prisoner of Ice gets 1/5 star not because of the game but of 2 things: 1) The infamous save error that won't let you auto-save or manual save is still here. I thought GOG would've taken care of that. 2) The voice acting is different than I last remembered. I assumed Prisoner of Ice has 2 versions, each with different voice actors. I prefer the one that GOG didn't use. In a nutshell, POI is unplayable thanks to this save bug. Appreciate if GOG will fix it promptly and if possible, provide the alternative version with better voice acting.
