Description

Multiplayer notice: The DRM free version of Brutal Legend is single-player only.

The vivid and wildly creative world of Brütal Legend is brought to life through a spate of chrome, leather, rocker babes, epic music, fire-breathing/stud-wearing beasts, mountains made of guitar amps, and more. Follow Eddie as he embarks on a tour of epic destruction with an axe, a guitar, and his minions as he commands the power of rock in epic band battles. It’s lighter-flicking awesomeness that will melt your face clean off.

Brütal Legend is an action-adventure that marries visceral action combat with open-world freedom. Set in a universe somewhere between Lord of the Rings and Spinal Tap, it’s a fresh take on the action/driving genre, which in this case is full of imitation cover bands, demons intent on enslaving humanity and Heavy metal tunes. Featuring the talents of comedian, actor and musician, Jack Black as super roadie Eddie Riggs, as well as cameos by some of the biggest names in metal music, it's a wild ride in the belly of the beast that is not to be missed!

  • You have the freedom to walk, drive, or fly anywhere in a fully streaming open world whose art style is inspired by some of the most iconic and hilariously rad metal album covers ever created. Every vista in the beautiful universe of Brütal Legend looks like it was pulled from a Frank Frazetta painting.
  • Fight alongside Metal Gods--such as Lemmy Kilmister, Rob Halford, Lita Ford, and many, many others--while rocking out to the most epic heavy metal soundtrack in video game history.
  • Your guitar is your weapon. Wield a demon-slaying, electricity-creating guitar and use the power of Metal to summon wild beasts into battle, buff your teammates, and melt faces!

Great game, lousy port

The game is a fantastic RTS with adventure and RPG elements The port is lousy and not even lord satan's computer, praise his black metal soul, can run it at max settings without framerate issues The port is 3/5, the game is 5/5, so lets give it 4.5/5 and round down because double fine keeps messing up their ports and remasters

Amazing Game Worth Playing, VERY funny.

This game has a great intro, and great mid-game gameplay that will leave you painfully depressed at the end when it turns into a completely different game for no reason. ZERO replayability. Totally worth getting even for that one single experience. I do strongly believe that like myself, most people will not want to play it again once they have already played it through one time. The game suffers from really frustrating timers that are placed for basically no reason at all other than to make you sweat and rip your hair out. "HURRY DRIVE TO THIS RANDOM LOCATION SOMEWHERE FAR AWAY! YOU HAVE A VERY SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME! OH NOO!!!!!" other than that the game is excellent and funny but only in the beginning and middle. Towards the end the game randomly just turns into a real time strategy game for no reason at all (and a very very awful one at that) and seems to be the games way of telling you "hey you did it, this is now free-play mode!" which is the worst ending imaginable. I wont say how it ends or what happens for you to get there, so no spoilers. I'm just describing what the game turns in to, but not what happens in the story. I'm very sure everyone else will be very disappointed and even depressed at the end of the game. The magical experience that has been going on the whole game right until the middle/end comes grinding to a halt and you're left wishing that it didn't end that way and that they would have released a Brutal Legend 2 with more love put into it, and no random awful real time strategy gameplay shoehorned into a game that didn't deserve that kind of jarring and immersion wrecking change out of nowhere. This screams to me that they just couldn't think up a way to end the game on a good note or something. -1 one star for the painfully unnecessary timers, and -1 star for the sudden and unwelcome shift into an RTS game (which pretty much ruins the ending for me) I do highly recommend BL to everyone. It will stay with your soul forever in your dreams.

Driving mechanics killed a good game

I would really like to give this game a recommendation, because it's charming, funny, has a lot of heart and I love Double Fine. I would be willing to forgive it it's boring fighting mechanic and pretty empty strategy mechanic (which doesn't have any real strategy to it). If this game only required you to complete one of these two chores (or a less bad "guitar solo" mini game) every now and then to move on to the next funny scene, I would give it 3 stars because that would be an overall fun experience. Jack Black and all his guest stars are just that fun, story is funny and the graphics are very pretty. Sadly, there is also driving. Terrible, TERRIBLE driving. Don't trust the other reviews when they describe driving as "not great". Driving a Yugo is "not great". Driving in this game leaves the impression that it has been designed by a race of ethereal beings from a non-physical plane of existence who tried and failed to imagine the experience of driving based on reading comics and studying photographs. Your car has no inertia and steering...I honestly never had a RL or virtual experience that is comparable to this steering. The closest thing that I can imagine would be driving a tank with super-traction tires on Jupiter. There are few missions that try to spice up the driving with shooting, but the aiming and shooting is, out of necessity, made very easy because keeping the car on course is challenge enough, unless that course is a straight line. I finally quit the game when a mission (won't spoil the story with background) required me to use the to escape a pursuer. There was couple of U turns on the track and...I just don't know. Maybe one of those genius kids who figure out surgery on their own at the age of 6, without ever going to school, maybe one of them could figure out how to complete a semi-challenging driving course in this game without their hearts overflowing with hate and despair, but I couldn't, so I had to quit and delete the game without completing it.
