Brutal Legend

Thats it. The game is fun. No more to be said. Now seriously, this game has a lot to offer, from story, albeit it being predictable, thats vrapped in the right kind of Metal, crazy and funny at the same time. The only real problem the game has are its mechanics based around commanding troops, that are just horrendous on higher difficulties, and its hack and slash combat not being more worked on, and though being very enjoyable, looks like an afterthought. The game boasts great soundtrack compiled from many greatest heavy metal bands in history and then some. This soundtrack plays during story missions or through radio in your car. When it comes to driving, though its not great, it aint terrible either and it also lets you get lose in the music and enviroment. And those are awesome. Metal practicly shines from every corner, setpiece, character design or just efect. So what can I say about a game that won my heart. It is a flawed gem, that needs to be played, and depending on your relationship with metal ends up in either your heart or your trash can.

Funny and well made but there's something lacking. Feels very on a rail so far, where you don't really have many real choices. Sometimes wish they had made it a movie instead because it is funny and great in many ways, but when it comes to gameplay it doesn't feel as stimulating. Still worth playing though for the story and characters. It had potential to be one of my favorite games but gameplay just wasn't strong enough.

Felt like wanting to get back into early 2000 metal recently and Brutal Legend was perfect for that. This is a short (less then 10h) game that is just very well made in my opinion, you can tell the team had a lot of fun making it. It has aged pretty well, although the RTS genre is definitivly out of fashion and that the difficulty can spike at random places making it a bit frustrating, my biggest advice for that would be to just take your time in the RTS missions and slowly max out your troops and upgrades before trying to finish of your ennemy. Apart from that, the story is great and overall very parodic and over the top which is perfect for a game about metal. I was suprised to see it does sometime becomes a bit more mature though and it was appreciated.

I rated this a 5 star, not because it is perfect (no game is), but because of how incredibly under-rated it was at release, and still is to this day. Those who have not played this game have missed out. The combat can at times be a bit clunky, but that is NOT the reason to play this game. The biggest reasons to play: Cruising around listening to heavy metal music in a car right out of an iron maiden vinyl cover Lita Ford Ozzy Osbourne Jack Black is AWESOME in this game, it's disappointing he was never hired to voice more than he has, he is a great voice actor You have an axe guitar that is used as an axe weapon :) Did I mention Ozzy Osbourne? So many GREAT classic metal tracks in the soundtrack to ride around in and run down enemies to Sure, as a straight up rpg this game doesn't compete well with others out there. But that is not, and never has been what this game is about. My niece got me this game when she was 5 (obviously my sister hehe, but the thought counts) and I played the crap out of it. I've bought it again here just to replay it. If you play this game as a metal fan looking to be in a heavy metal fantasy, you will not be disappointed, just look past the slightly dated graphics and mechanics, and you'll see the heavy metal fantasy shining through. If you think this will be the new diablo or other rpg on that level, you will be painfully disappointed. 222
