Mostly Good
I enjoy the action adventure portions of this game, but the RTS portions are tedious.

Good fun game but choose Windows version
I tried both Linux and Windows versions. No matter what I tried in the Linux version, the performance was noticeably ( graphical smoothness aka stutter-free experience wise) worse than the Windows version even using wine/Lutris within Linux Mint 20 cinnamon. Also in the Linux version I purposely played through some until sometime just after you meet the dark haired girl companion and it completely locked up my system for no reason. Thus I stuck with the Windows version Both wine's newest versions 7-17-20 of stable and staging were installed from winehq's official site. rx580 8GB vram sapphire nitro+ vid card 4790k cpu 16GB of 2400mhz ram 1440p 144hz monitor Linux Mint 20 cinnamon 64 bit Mesa version 20.1.3 Vulkan 1.1.31 ( using command in terminal without quotes "vulkaninfo | less" Lutris setting specifically for Brutal Legend Windows version- ( user = what you named your linux pc) --- Game options --- Executable is /home/user/.wine/drive_c/GOG Games/Brutal Legend/BrutalLegend.exe Wine prefix is ~/.wine --Runner options-- Wine version is System (5.12) (staging)) ...I installed this from within the wine menus under Game Info and selecting the " install runners" button to the right of that section.. Use System winetricks is enabled Enable DXVK ( which honestly I don't know if this is needed or matters yet) Enable Esync is turned on/enabled ---System options -- Default installation folder is /home/user/Games ( note I created this Games folder. Unsure if it really matters where it is installed but I would guess it does. Chris Titus Tech on youtube is a great source of linux gaming help. Restore Resolution on game exit is enabled Restore gamma on game exit is enabled Enable ACO shader compiler is enabled Enable feral gamemode is enabled Nvidia gpu? I haven't room to talk there yet. Ensure your proprietary driver is installed and working correctly first before installing wine and this game as well as Lutris. Hope this helped. Cheers \m/

Good surprise
Eddie's French voice is that of cartman from south park it's great 0 technical problems on my side 0 crash 10 hours to complete 80% of the game in my case Some passages are a bit difficult even on average. I recommend a game that's typical of the era, far from the sanitized stuff of today.

Good, but not the best
I have beat this game twice, once on XBox 360 (Rented) and once on Steam. The 2nd time I mostly focused on story-line and skipped side objectives. The games starts off fun, with the focus being on you, but over time it goes from ME, ME, ME to US, US, US as new strategy elements are introduced. On my first play-through I focused too much on the strategy elements and found it difficult. On my second play through I properly balanced between ME & THEM, sending them out to die, while I drove around, shooting things, melting faces and jumping around. I find the strategy elements a little to fast, if your not constantly pushing forward, you will be crushed. I would say i'm a fan of the game and If I have enough time I would want to finish the side quests.

A Flawed Gem
Its okay. when it works its fantastic(first half of the game) but the lowpoints(second half of the game) are so bad it makes it hard for me to recommend. The charm and creativity Tim Schaefer is known for is certainly present in this game. The characters, voice acting, music, visuals and writing all feel meticulously crafted to immerse you into the metal world that is Brutal Legend. Unfortunately thats where the praise ends with me. When it comes to the actual gameplay its a clunky mess of ideas that feel under developed. The game starts as a basic hack n slash action with some vehicle sections which would be fine if the controls werent so god awful. Driving feels like slogging through mud in a tank, its just so clunky and unresponsive that it sucked all the fun out of the driving sections. The combat is fun initially theres some cool bossfights but this all changes in the latter half of the game where it turns into a bad RTS. The way you command units is just nonsensical, you have to be right next to units in order to command them so it becomes really annoying to try and coordinate your team in the last few battles. Some units counter others but its not clear what unit has an advantage over the other, so its usually optimal to just spam guitar attacks. The story and how its paced is pretty bad as well. It starts out pretty engrossing but at the end it leaves you wanting more as most of the plot points are left up in the air. Brutal Legend really could have been something special, but the gameplay holds it back resulting in an experience that ends up being more frustrating than enjoyable.
