nice addition although flawed

i never played BS1 and recently just played BS2 from gog.com. I liked the title for its charming characters and good voice over. this did not change in BS3 but a few other things changed. having a 3d game brings the usual troubles when you get fixed camera positions so searching for ways out was not harder but more frustrating. It does feature quick time events and since this is mainly an adventure game your hero does not have many moves or defenses, therefore action is being put into cutscenes with a few QTE. that's not my style but I can see that they wanted to try something different here and I can respect that. apart from that the game had a few puzzles too much repeating (moving crates) and some from BK2 had a reappearance although with a little twist. a few little stabs at other games or movies made me smile. All in all a good game but I like BK2 better, its puzzles felt a little fresher while in BK3 the environment and interaction with it felt fresher. still a recommendation.

Broken (Not quite)

Comparing this to to its predecessors is harsh but necessary, the previous Broken Sword games were, in my opinion, the greatest adventure games ever made (by far). As was so often the case though the step over to 3D didn't quite work out as I had once hoped and not always for the obvious reasons - sure the graphics lacked charm and shoving around boxes isn't my idea of a stellar adventure game puzzle, but there were more fundamental issues than these. First of all the writing. This game is not well written, the charisma and humour of the previous two games is gone, most of the jokes are naff, almost non are funny. I don't need my adventure games to be a laugh a minute but the wit of the first two Broken Sword games really stood out, it was a more measured approach to adventure games, I always prefered the likes of Gabriel Knights or Broken Sword to the likes of Day of the Tentacle or The Dig because they didn't seem to be trying to be funny all the time. The humour in BS 1&2 was sparodic, clever... fun. But not here, I laughed once or twice but only because I enjoy the word 'pissouir'. But this isn't the main problem with the writing. The big issue here is the story. The entire game hinges on nonsense. There are gaping plot holes. Why did the 'professional' killer need to frame Nico - why was that necessary? Why did the 'proffesional' arrive at the scene of the crime in a conspicuous E-Type Jag? Why did she discard her disguise about 3 yards away from the house leaving an obvious DNA trace? It is all very clumsily handled by the writers. But worse than this is general lack of quality in the writing throughout in game conversations, it just isn't as smart as BS 1&2, it isn't as deep as those games, you can't talk to all the characters about every item in your inventory for example and so it all feels comparitively thin. It isn't bad but a badly written adventure game, with a poor plot, and very simple puzzles is never going to live up what had come before.

Annoying playstation game

Replaying after 20 years... I was not ready for the first half of the game to be this sparse and outright annoying. Then it picks up the pace a little, it has the Broken Sword vibe but can't shake off the annoyances of 3D. Nico's segments are almost unbearable. Cameras are outright terrible, disorientating and whole 3D world is just an attempt to slow you down. Not having an option to skip dialogue is another attempt to slow you down and even discourage from exploring. Tried to play it with handheld keyboard but had to switch to real keyboard for several action scenes. It's not bad but definitely not for point and click adventure fans. Occasionally crashes on Windows 10, XP compatibility mode enabled and 4:3 resolution set.

Not too bad

It's worth a try but keep in mind this does not retain the charm of the cartoonish 2D Broken Sword Games. Gameplay went from point and click to tank controls and has no controller support. As a fan of the series I avoided this one for many years because I knew it lacked and wans't as good as the other broken sword games but because it was on sale dirt cheap I decided to try it. The graphics even though outdated aren't bad, the story is okay but the gameplay feels clunky and unpolished at times. Not a bad game but not the greattest

Underrated fun adventure game

This game might not be as gorgeous as the first two, but it really deserves a second look and a chance because it is a sort of hidden gem. If you overcome all these short action video game attempts, it will bring you a lot of joy, good times, and laughs. Today, I feel very foolish for not playing it seriously when I was younger, but rediscovering it today in 202X feels like a gift. I really enjoy the feeling it brings and the mysterious atmosphere of crimes, suspense, and more. I think you will like this game. You probably won’t love it like BS 1 and BS 2, but you will really have a good time.
