Broforce

This game succeeds at being nothing but fun! The action is so crazy & over the top, even character deaths are more entertaining than frustrating (I've had countless "bros" killed in hilarious Rube Goldberg-esque chains of destruction). Even if you end up retrying a difficult level for the dozenth time, you will still be having fun; it never gets too frustrating and finally beating the level is only that much more satisfying. Even after beating the game in campaign (story) mode, you will still have fun replaying levels in arcade mode, or you can even skip the story & just play arcade! Worth every penny full price & an even better deal on sale. I first got this game on Steam & loved it, then I saw it (on sale) here on GOG & decided "Awesome game + no DRM & offline backup + it's on sale? Why the heck not?" and bought it here too! Yes, it's that good, it's worth purchasing a second time!

I avoided this game for a while because I didn't find the concept compelling, but once I gave it a shot I realized that it's just an exceptionally well-polished game that's fun even if you don't care for the premise. There's lots of variation in the levels, the enemies, and the characters you play as, the art is very well done, the difficulty is neither too easy nor too challenging, and it's a gameplay format (side-scrolling shooter) that I haven't played since the '90s, so it's a nice variation from the games I normally play.

I wasn't aware that this game has been around for so long. It flew under my radar. Broforce is just horny. The pixel optics knocks me over and meets the modern 16-bit look. The action on the screen explodes almost every moment to the extreme. The sound blows you away with fat explosions and hard metal between the stages. The multiplayer mode is chaotic to strategically good - depending on your playing style. I can't stop playing Broforce anymore. Give me more, now - Broforce.

The long and the short is that its a lot of fun. Not infrequently I die and don't know it, or am not sure what killed me because of all the 'splosion and pixel gore - and you know what - I don't care because.... it's just great fun. The player unlocks 80s and 90s action heros with terrible punning names (like Robobro - ugh) at a fairly brisk rate. These characters are more or less powerful, with some of the less powerful ones being more or less useless, and the player is randomly allocated one when they die/restart. The levels are fairly short, some few minutes in length. From the word go it is fenetic and explodie. Most the minions die in one shot though there are a few that take more. After clearing a few levels there are bosses at the level's end which tests how well you have learnt to throw your face at stuff. On dying the character respawns immediately at checkpoints, or if you have killed all your lives a quick 3 - 2 - 1 at the level's start and off you go again. Great game to play for 15-20 minutes then do something else. Haven't completed the game as removed a drive from the 'puter so the save was lost, but will happily go through the levels again. 4 1/2 out of 5

What I like about the game - funny retro atmosphere, wide variety of heroes with strong personalities and various skills and weapons, level design that makes you not only shoot but also thinking a bit, destructible and interactive environment, reasonable difficulty, responsive controls, stylish audiovisuals and the presence of local multiplayer. There are really not many things that I dislike - maybe the absence of dubbing as I think that some one liners would make the game atmosphere even better, more distinctive music in 80’s style and higher variability of enemies. Is it suitable for family playing? Well, there is a local multiplayer so if you get over the blood and violent nature of the game you can play it with 10+ years old kids. After all, thanks to the pixel graphics and sense of humor it is not such a drastic game. Pros: - atmosphere - wide variety of heroes - level design - environment - difficulty - controls - audiovisuals - local multiplayer Cons: - absence of dubbing - more distinctive music - variability of enemies I have enjoyed playing Broforce a lot and thus I am giving the game Thumbs Up and VideoGaming Father’s Index 9 out of 10 - highly recommended.
