Breath of Fire IV
Description
In a far-away world, two continents float, separated by a vast swamp-land. For eons, no contact existed between the two continents because ships couldn’t sail across the expanse. At last, when the historic first contact was made between the two powers, war erupted!
After long and costly fighting between the Fou Empire in the west and an alliance of countries in the east, both sides exhausted all their strength and resources. With no other alternative, the two powers agreed to an armistice.
One year later, Princess Elina vanished. She had been traveling in the east from town to town, exploring battlegrounds and visiting war veterans. Her trail vanished in a small town near the front line. Nobody knew her whereabouts!
The Eastern Alliance wanted to avoid sending a large army to the front. Such a move would be a political blunder, breaking the armistice and stirring up hostilities. It became impossible to carry out a large-scale search for Elina. Time passed... with no sign of the princess.
Elina’s sister, Princess Nina, finally makes up her mind. She leaves on a journey in search of her sister – by herself.
Ryu
Ryu meets Nina while he is lying unconscious on a street in a desert town in the eastern continent. His race and native land are unknown. Ryu has a Dragon’s Eye, which empowers him with the amazing abilities to transform into a dragon and summon dragons.

Nina

Flawed Nostalgia
Let me start by saying it is great to have this game preserved for the future. I still love it even to this day and even in this condition. Speaking of which there are a few issues that at this time haven't been resolved. Graphic glitches in panning shots in cutscenes where it is slow then rapidly speeds up to catch up the animations of characters. The controls scheme for controllers is odd and doesn't use the button graphics from the PS1. The emulator used for this port changes how the graphics are rendered leading to weird feeling smoothing on some graphics, clipping from slightly updated 3D models, either with terrain or with sprites on different layers. BUT even with these issues I am having fun with the game, reliving some of my memories and even finding and doing things my younger self just plainly missed out on. (I never knew how to get the different endings...) It is still a solid Breath of Fire entry even with the slight errors and odd choices that may or may not be fixed eventually. Either way I still love it and I can only hope the others of the series make it here sooner or later. Bit of a tip, change the keyboard keys to the letters of the buttons you are using on your controller, atleast then it will match up and be less confusing when you are trying to figure out which buttons to press when you want to make camp or what buttons to use in the Super Combo. And remember regardless of flaws, enjoyed time is never wasted time.

Good Remake but has CTD issue.
Remake is just like when I played in on the PS1 years ago, really good gameplay and story. Still has the English censored version, so the dialogue is not 100% translated correctly, and some scenes have been removed to make it "Western Friendly" by Capcom still. My only real issue is that at launch at least it has CTD bug in the town of Chiqua when you talk to the blue fish merchant and attempt to look at the "Power Glove" item, it will instantly crash. Some have suggested it's a controller issue causing it, but it really isn't as I've tested it on keyborad and controller. GOG really need to bug fix this.

Decent port
Decent port of this classic. The mapping of buttons for a controller is not great, but otherwise this is a blast to play this game!
