Not SOTN. Not even fun.
The movement is a slog, like I'm wading through mud, but without the hard hits of series it supposedly draws from. The aesthetics focus on cringe weeb fan service vibe instead of the predominantly masculine gothic of Castlevania. It's a giant dialog crawl early on. As a huge SOTN, DS and early Castlevania, and Metroid fan, nothing about this game was fun to me. It is not a worthy entry to the genre.

Not Castlevania enough
I was a backer and am playing the first released version of the game. I am a big fan of Symphony of the Night and have been hoping for a sequel forever. This game is close, but there are a few cons that makes it imperfect: Music - No classical Castlevania sound tracks (for obvious reasons) - Music is not a breathtaking mix of classical and modern (e.g. electric guitar & baroque piano) - Music was not made by a 42-piece orchestra like SotN. - The soundtrack cannot be heard well due to the audio-balance and Sound FX. So far, only one soundtrack strikes me as memorable, but most of them are meh! (forgotten already). Visuals - To make sure you can see every detail of the main character, they made her too big. As a result, she appears to be moving much slower than Alucard did (smaller figure). Just compare the intro to SotN - the drawbridge is many times bigger than Alucard. In this game, you can just jump over it! - The late fixes to the graphic is not utilized well enough. I was hoping to see shining fairies cast a glow on the background, but even if the engine allows it, it is only being used for static lamps, and not for burning deamons. - The castle is adapted to the large character sizes, so even if their models were scaled down, the castle would not look right. - In the stretch-goals, it was demonstrated how the backgrounds would become gradually more corrupted, but this was not utilized at release. The castle is boringly static. - SotN had put lots of 2D art in the castle background art. 3D art is more complicated and so a lot of the artwork is inferior to SotN, although the Hi-Res makes up for a lot. - The 'nudity' in SotN could not be replicated in a 2.5D game without making it R-rated. So no nymphs, sylphs, succubus or anything even remotely piquing. - Characters are static during conversations. No thrown wineglasses. Just manga-game style : ( The story is nothing like Mirror of Fate, but enough for a Castlevania game. : ) The weapons become boring ith time
