Accentuated with cinema-quality voice-overs, dynamic lighting effects and more than 25 minutes of stunning full-motion-video footage, Legacy of Kain features an engrossing storyline that invites gamers to embark on a journey through an expansive world containing more than 100 hours of intense, blood-sucking, spell-casting gameplay.
The nobleman Kain has been slain by a group of bandits and in his death, he is revived by the necromancer Mortanius for his own ends. Kain is returned in the form of a vampire and yearns to exact vengeance on those who killed him. Stronger and faster than a human being, coupled with a thirst for blood that must be satisfied regularly, he is able to dispatch his killers quickly. However, Mortanius and other forces seek to use him as a tool in a greater plot. Mortanius is of the Circle of Nine, the guardians of the Pillars of Nosgoth. These pillars, connected to the world and balancing the forces, have become corrupted and the Circle members been driven mad. At the Pillars, Kain meets Ariel - a former guardian of the Pillar of Balance, now a spirit after being murdered by an unseen assailant. She informs Kain of his relation to the Pillars and that the only way for him to restore the balance is to seek out each guardian and kill them. The fate of Nosgoth may hang on Kain decisions.
Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain is an action game where the player controls the vampiric Kain. As a vampire, Kain is able to withstand sunlight, but is harmed by water. However, he is able to obtain several cursed abilities and spells such as being able to transform into a bat, wolf, and even a cloud mist respectively, as well as learning the ability to disguise himself from creatures of weaker mind. Kain is also fixated on murder and is a master of several ways to kill and destroy his opponents. As the enemies are slain in front of him, Kain may drink their blood to restore his health, which is always trickling away, representative of his insatiable craving. To aid in the slaughter of his enemies, Kain may equip different weapons and armor, each with its own unique properties.

Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain
This game is so fun and highly addcitive. If you're a fan of the Blood Omen games, you'll like this one. It's jsut so well done... maybe the best in the series!

Just like I remember
I played this game a number of times like my dad. We both loved the series for what it built even though some aspects can be jaring, like the Moon doors. I'm glad I could play this game again after so long.

A game where you have to listen
From the viewpoint of a player who likes to explore in gaming's history Legacy of Kain is clearly a cornerstone of the late '90s-early 2000's gaming era and this is where it all began. I encountered Soul Reaver earlier and I expected a way harder experience from Blood Omen because of that, but I'm fine with what I got. A few tricky and more not so tricky boss fights, a basic hack&slash combat system where most of the results depends on how you use your skills and items. I mentioned the game isn't too hard, but that doesn't mean that you can't make yourself looking at the 'Game Over' screen if you're not cautious and plan ahead with your equipment. The story is quite tricky to follow, and it creates the basics for the upcoming installments well, also short enough to not get bored over it, not to mention that peak voice acting that Simon Templeman and the rest of the cast delivered, and I must speak about the fully animated cinematics which aren't long, but it's a miracle what the devs brough out of the systems in 1996 - I was surprised how many emotions can be showed, mostly on Kain's face. It matched perfectly with the VO. I know it looks very clumsy compared to today's standards, but graphics like this have their charm, and it's a good one. The isomteric view and the 2D gameplay passed through for me either. And if I mentioned the cinematics and the voice acting, I have to take a moment for the music too: it's cozy and creepy, sets the game's tone perfectly. The game doesn't hold the players hands, it forces us to think and listen - that was the part I liked the best after the acting. I highly recommend this to anyone who likes retro games or is interested in the Legacy of Kain universe, I really enjoyed my time in Nosgoth.
