50/50 on buying this game

Blood II: The Chosen is an follow up to an classic game. Monolith changed so much between both Blood games. The story is Caleb an hundred years after defeating his master roams the world. An evil corporation called CabalCo descendants of Caleb's cult attempts to hunt Caleb down. You can play as all four chosen with each having their own lines and an particular weapon exclusive to them. But Blood II is an flawed game. They rushed the game out at an bad time nonetheless since some bugs are present. As of recent the developers haven't did much about it. Thankfully many fans made mods to help with that problem. Some of the worst AI I ever seen in any FPS game. I wish the game would give me an idea which weapons I can switch with. Several areas get reused so often that it makes the game boring. Thankfully not an problem in the original Blood. The best two things going for it that helps with your decision to buy the game or not. 1. Cheating makes most terrible bugs left in almost nonexistent 2. Nightmare Levels expansion is actually better than the actual game Yes you heard me the expansion is much better in many ways. You learn more about the chosen themselves. Each level except the last two, you get to revisit all of their pasts. Sadly because they did rush this game out. The other three chosens don't get their own cut scenes, levels and bosses. An wasted opportunity to increase interest or to help get you going again. Honestly I barely almost didn't buy it but because how much I love the original. I did so anyway.

So glad this got saved on GOG.

I got hooked on FPS with Quake 2 but loved Blood 2's ambience and style. Fantastic. Game is a fun plinker, but I just like everything about the atmosphere, music, characters, etc... Live comic book. Finished the game several times. Glad GOG brought this back. It's a lost gem, but not for everyone. All in all, a flawed shooter that had the right 'feel' for me and at the time pretty cool gameplay. I totally understand haters, but for me the game is a gem. I just have a hard time getting this game to run on modern OSes. I've tried old CD's and emulation, then GOG had it! It ran, but a lot of the special effects were gimped. Hoping it's fixed. Half life and then Fallout took over in later years, but I love the lore and ambience this game has.

Doesn't work on modern HW and Windows 10

Game is probably good, but you need some retro PC for playing it. I have RTX 2070 Super and Win 10 and game doesn't work, when I switch to software rendering, it works somehow, but it's crashing. They should inform customers clearly that game is not for modern PC. I know it takes many time to test all games, but they should test it before they publish it on gog. I would say more than half of games here doesn't work on GOG, why that publishers can't do something with that when they want our money even after 20 or more years after game was published? With DOS games, it's not big problem, you just run it thru DOS Box, but old real 3D games around year 2000 year sometimes really hard to make it operable.

Requires 2 min of effort

To run on win11, - download dgVoodoo, - copy 4 required files to blood folder, - launch dgVoodo, - force resolution to your monitor's native (1920x1080 in my case) - launch game - disable - in display options set resolution to 640x480 You might need to add few options (steamcommunity has short article on how to run it with dgVoodoo - just google it) Runs very well, silky smooth 60 fps (or more if you like)

DE-CANONIZE...THIS...GAME!!!

One of the biggest travesties to ever kill a franchise. This game was broken in 1998, and modern systems just exacerbate it's problems. Perhaps you've heard of a mod called Blood 2: Extra Crispy? The mod seeks out to fix the games myriad of problems like: it's broken damage system, guns do seemingly random amounts of damage; it's broken enemy AI, who either swarm you to death or stand there and get killed without a fight. All among so many countless other problems that have existed for 2 decades now. Noble cause...they failed. Even the launcher for this game is broken. For some GODAWFUL reason, you are only allowed to access one feature of the launcher PER LAUNCH! Want to load mods? You won't be able to fix the resolution using the widescreen fix. Want to fix the resolution? Can't run Extra Crispy now! Figure you're really clever? Just going to adjust one, then close and restart and adjust the other? Sorry, it forgot all of your previous settings in between launches. It's pure BS. This game wasn't meant to be played. Interplay released unfinished. Nothing short of a full remake in a brand new engine is going to fix this disaster, and I seriously doubt even Night Dive Studios would be up the task. It doesn't want to be played. It doesn't want to be enjoyed. Only masochists would like this; and then probably only as an ironic joke for a crappy youtube let's play show. Just leave it to rot in shame and obscurity. That's what it has earned.
