Apparently, a lot of people seem to hate this game. Sure, it's glitchy, feels like an alpha version a lot of the time, the difficulty is all over the place, but it wasn't a bad shooter for its time! It's only bad if you compare it to the original masterpiece. Anyway, I personally enjoyed Blood 2, its grim and goofy atmosphere, and I certainly liked it a lot more than Shogo!
This game is good but not as good as the original. The graphics are pretty good for a 1998 game. The gameplay is a little poor. Over all, this game is recommended, but only for collectors.
It had its charm, but ain't that unique or athmospheric like the first one. They added a few ideas, but nothing new. Still worth to play through.
It does support high resolutions monitors and only slightly overrun/over-speed on modern CPU & GPU.
Compared to the first one this is a way weaker game. Level design is annoying and bad at times, game crashes a lot and is buggy. AI is annoying and the challenge come from unfair aimbot like accuracy where enemies can see you instantly and start shooting. Also this game has pretty stupid weapon limit. You have 10 slots, but there are more weapons. So if you already have 10 you need to drop one of the weapons. But still its solid fun and decent game. There are fun guns, shooting is fine and Caleb is solid. If you just want to enjoy and see the came through, I recommend going with easy difficulty. Then the enemy instant aim is more tolerable and you can enjoy the game without constant quick saving and loading.
I'm not one to harp on games, especially the ones that I grew up on, but Blood 2 fails to live up to the expectations of its predecessor on every front. Blood 2 is one of those rare sequels from this time period that you can't help but think was ruined by the whole need for Polygonal 3D. They essentially ruined the atmosphere and soul of a game that was built almost entirely around those 2 things. The graphics are horrible and can't convey the same emotion that the 2D sprites did in the original, the weapons feel week (No matter how powerful they are) and the enemy's and level design are abysmal. The only reason I rated this game 2 stars was that, at the time, it took me so long to get this game to work that when I was finally able to play it, I had a sense of satisfaction that has tinged my memory of it, as crazy as that may sound. All that being said. if you want the real Blood experience with all its humor and disturbing imagery, do yourself a favor and pick up One Whole Unit of Blood, you won't regret it.
