Description
Block’hood is a neighborhood-building simulator that celebrates the diversity and experimentation of cities and the unique ecosystems within them. Budding city planners will have access to 90+ building blocks to arrange and combine and to create unique neighborhoods and discover the implications of their designs. The game will embark on a story of ecology and understanding as additional resources are always needed to unlock new blocks, configurations, and combinations to create more prosperous neighborhoods. Throughout the design process, players will need to avoid the decay of their city blocks by making sure each unit doesn’t run out of resources and become a strain on the complimentary units around them.

Envision Your Neighborhood: Consider what Blocks are necessary for your neighborhood to thrive. There are no boundaries of what you can create with an expanding library of 90+ blocks.

Generate Resources: Each Block you create has inputs and outputs and by understanding how each block is dependent on other blocks, you can create a productive network. Optimize your production and generate abundant resources for the dozens of intricate symbiotic relationships in your neighborhood.

Avoid Decay: If blocks don't receive the inputs they need, they will decay over time and slowly become abandoned or destroyed. Once a block is abandoned or destroyed, you will have to remove it and avoid it from making other blocks decay further. Be careful as seeking an utopian neighborhood carelessly, can lead to dystopia.

Unique Modes: Neighborhood designers an enjoy Sandbox Mode and Challenge Mode with modes for Education and Research planned for educational and academic use within the classroom.

Don't try running on a Laptop

I have my work Laptop, being somewhere "not at home". Want to use my time on something good. But I cannot even get beyond the tutorial, since it REQUIRES you to scroll the mose wheel, it REQUIRES you to click the mousehweel and then move around. No skip buttons anywhere. Not everyone carries around an extra mouse. Not very well thought out usability. The game works fine if you have a mouse wheel, maybe I'll change my rating later.

Linux build : unplayable

The game has been tested on Ubuntu and Manjaro. I tried several times with several months apart. It was, and it is still unplayable ( july 2017 ). Annoying : Keyboard rebind = impossible = umplayable in 2017. Unforgivable : There is a problem with UI -> Menus, tutorials, crucials informations do not appear while in game. Once more, it's unplayable.

Confusing, over complicated, and unclear

When I first picked up this game, early in development, it seemed to have promise. A nice twist on the city builder. However, after picking this game back up after a long time, I'm so dissapointed and annoyed with this game. The mechanics are stupidly obtuse. Need water? Build a tower! Oh, but wait, it needs to be built by the edge of the map at first! Oh, what? All my buildings just fell apart, all at the same time! Why? Not a flippin clue! The game says I should play the tutorials, but when I clock the tutorial buttons, it says "play the tutorial!" with NO TUTORIALS! I'd look online, but all the videos are woefully out of date! I'm at a lost at why everything (buildings, watertowers, everything I placed) spontanously collapses at once after a short period of time. I'd avoid this game, and seek out better city builders. This game's mechanics are bad, and far to confusing, and you're not told how to do anything.

It's ok...

Controls were very difficult to understand and had a difficult time understanding the overall mechanics of the game. Couldn't get past these issues to spend more than a few hours playing total.

Lots of promise - needs some updates

This game has lots of promise and I love the style. It desperately needs an update. But there are issues: - Tutorial/Story mode has some finicky things about it - mainly that you get caught into odd loops especially if you revisit one and need/want to move forward quickly - Saving is beyond unintuitive - When something isn't working it's not clear why I didn't en up playing it much because I felt hampered by the issues - but if they were fixed, I'd revisit.
