Look i played the original when it came out, it was 1997 I think and it was incredible but this version is just bad, not absolute shite but still bad, the cut scenes seems to be blurier than the old versions, the french dubbing is not working in the cut scenes (only in game), anyway it could have been much better than we got, just play the original that is sold with the enhanced version.
This is one of these games that if they do a remaster, it has to be as good as ‘Beneath a Steel Sky’. Except it’s woefully not.
The backgrounds are motion smoothed out and darkened to the point you cannot see details (it is a post & click after all) the characters on the other hand are pixelated.
FMV is passable, the rest is not. Thankfully you can press a key on your keyboard and switch to the original, so if you do tolerate the ‘motion smoothed’ over experience and get stuck, press a key to see a ‘detailed’ background of the original, then go back. The irony is you get both versions, good for the wrong reasons, because it’s best just playing this in the original version
I have the CD-ROM version, 4 CD jewel case, it is a classic.
It also doesn’t display full screen. You will have a 4:3 black border or a background game still to fill the edges visually.
You can control it with an Xbox controller (pc) why? The mouse becomes a joystick! Except it doesn’t automatically go to the objects of interest!! It’s a nightmare. Just use your eye and mouse and click on objects of interest.
This is a dogs dinner! It gets two stars because of the original version and the extras from GoG.
As someone who bought the original version before the enhanced version, where did the original store link go? Customers should have the choice to buy the EE or the original version.
I've got the SCUMMVM 2019 version, not remotely interested in this travesty. Just seems to me that GOG & Nightdive are trying to cash in on a classic game with minimal effort. Want to do it, do it right more importantly do the game justice...
If not leave the game as intended by the original developers. Zero resect for Nightdive after the System Shock debacle and GOG is on the same path...
