Black Geyser: Couriers of Darkness. Explore a land plagued by war, pestilence and mysterious abductions, and uncover the hidden legacy of your birth. Recruit powerful allies to your cause; achieve your goals through sorcery, stealth, a silver tongue or brute force; and discover the truth of the Black Geyser.
Developed by a small indie team and inspired by cRPG classics like Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale, Black Geyser features challenging real time tactical combat with pause, deep lore and memorable companions, all set in a sprawling, unique fantasy world.
STORY RICH
Black Geyser is set in Yerengal, a world where dark gods have brought nothing but venality and greed.
For centuries, the Devil-god Rothgor has spread fear and terror, waging war upon the mortal races. Eventually banished, the nation of Isilmerald has enjoyed a time of peace and prosperity. Yet discontent has begun to fester once more, and a bloody civil war is brewing between the capital Isilbright and the wealthy mining town of Deron-Guld.
RECRUIT KEY ALLIES
Encounter and recruit a team of unique characters to join your adventure. Each has their own story, motivations and abilities: who will aid your party?
CREATE YOUR OWN HERO
Choose from 5 playable races (Human, Dwarf, Elf, Feldegug and Rillow) and 13 unique classes from 4 class groups (Priest, Outlaw, Warrior, and Wizard). Customize your attributes, portrait, skills and abilities.
EXPLORE AN OPEN WORLD
Travel to Isilbright and the shadowed mines of Deron-Guld or uncover pavillions of the Rillow. Black Geyser invites you to explore a rich world filled with unique enemies, strange creatures and even stranger characters.
TACTICAL COMBAT WITH PAUSE
Watch combat play out in real time with the option to pause the action and issue new orders when needed. Control the battlefield using dozens of spells and skills, all while customising your party with a wide range of weapons, armors and items.
WILL GREED OVERCOME YOU?
Black Geyser features a unique Greed mechanic. The choices you make will either advance the cause of the Goddess of Greed, or maintain the flickering flame of hope to impact directly on the game world.

The game looks like Baldurs Gate but only visually.. On second look, it is really bad. Bad combat system, weak story, unplayable loading times, non functional or worthless game mechanics (brewing, drying, sneaking..), very badly designed character improvement (worthless skills and abilities, lots of useless spells, weak and on the other hand overpowered classess). Every and each item and weapon has ton of worthless abilities to waste your time. Why?
Sometimes an elaborate little is better than a sloppy lot. This game looks nice but is pain to play. Excessive ambition buried a promising project.
Early review:
I have only played the game for 2,5 hours, but I can already say that I mostly love it. The story seems good, and I´ve encountered no bugs so far (I just started playing early December as I wanted to wait untill some of the early bugs and gameplay issues were fixed).
Pros:
+ The sneak system is simply yet fun, much more so than in the old BG games.
+ The story and NPC characters seem interesting. (I have only encountered 3 so far)
+ combat feels natural and easy to understand in the easy to learn dif. to master way.
+ the graphical style, though it will get buffed later down the line as far as I understand, is solid.
Cons:
- The music is annoying in certain areas. In the (first) big city, it is too upbeat and monotonous and interrupts the downbeat flow of the setting. It appears more to be a music theme for a carnival than a big city. For me, music has already been a big deal in these games as we spend countless hours walking around exploring each area. The music is not a small part of the immersion. I hope they will rethink and implement more music. PoE had similar issues with nice, but very short looping tracks which turned repetitive very fast. Baldur´s Gate and Icewind Dale, on the other hand, had amazing, for their setting emotionally enhancing, soundtracks that still linger in my mind after more than 20 years.
-So far, I have not met a single "evil" NPC. In fact, I am unsure how to know the alignment of characters. I don´t mind it not being clear from the char sheet as in D&D, but still I have a feeling that the characters I´ve met so far are all on the goodie side. I prefer to play something akin to a Chaotic neutral/unpredictable character who can do bad as well as good things. Playing a hero is boring and why I dislike many RPGs. Given my short time playing the game, I may be wrong here, though.
-Too few things going on in crowded areas, I think the city should have more to do as the streets do seem a bit empty.
Overall very nice game!
