AN OLD-SCHOOL ISOMETRIC FANTASY RPG

Black Geyser: Couriers of Darkness. Explore a land plagued by war, pestilence and mysterious abductions, and uncover the hidden legacy of your birth. Recruit powerful allies to your cause; achieve your goals through sorcery, stealth, a silver tongue or brute force; and discover the truth of the Black Geyser.

Developed by a small indie team and inspired by cRPG classics like Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale, Black Geyser features challenging real time tactical combat with pause, deep lore and memorable companions, all set in a sprawling, unique fantasy world.

STORY RICH

Black Geyser is set in Yerengal, a world where dark gods have brought nothing but venality and greed.

For centuries, the Devil-god Rothgor has spread fear and terror, waging war upon the mortal races. Eventually banished, the nation of Isilmerald has enjoyed a time of peace and prosperity. Yet discontent has begun to fester once more, and a bloody civil war is brewing between the capital Isilbright and the wealthy mining town of Deron-Guld.

RECRUIT KEY ALLIES

Encounter and recruit a team of unique characters to join your adventure. Each has their own story, motivations and abilities: who will aid your party?

CREATE YOUR OWN HERO

Choose from 5 playable races (Human, Dwarf, Elf, Feldegug and Rillow) and 13 unique classes from 4 class groups (Priest, Outlaw, Warrior, and Wizard). Customize your attributes, portrait, skills and abilities.

EXPLORE AN OPEN WORLD

Travel to Isilbright and the shadowed mines of Deron-Guld or uncover pavillions of the Rillow. Black Geyser invites you to explore a rich world filled with unique enemies, strange creatures and even stranger characters.

TACTICAL COMBAT WITH PAUSE

Watch combat play out in real time with the option to pause the action and issue new orders when needed. Control the battlefield using dozens of spells and skills, all while customising your party with a wide range of weapons, armors and items.

WILL GREED OVERCOME YOU?

Black Geyser features a unique Greed mechanic. The choices you make will either advance the cause of the Goddess of Greed, or maintain the flickering flame of hope to impact directly on the game world.

Good game

Longtime RPG gamer here: I remember playing Ultima IV on an Apple II. This is a pretty good game. I played it on Normal and completed it in @125 hours, completing almost all the side quests. The combat is not too hard, there were only a few combats that I had to do more than once. Baldur Gate-type story line. The combat, inventory, and spell systems are all fine. Good graphics. So-so voice acting. Initally, everything was very slow to load. After a few patches, it's OK now. In short, if you like Baldur Gate-type games, this is a good one to get.

Very good classic CRPG

Another longtime role-playing gamer: I also remember Ultima IV (fondly)... and Ultima I. I enjoyed this game a lot. Play time for me was about 57 hours. The only bug I encountered was a minor inventory bug in the finale - nothing which would impact finishing. Graphics, atmosphere, and music were well done, and the story was fine. The world was original. Early combat was pretty easy, but by the end I needed to manage the battles carefully. I can think of some potential improvements: more development of companion characters, some interface streamlining, etc. However, I would consider these minor points. Heh, I had more complaints when some of the "classics" first came out. In the end, I had fun playing the game, and I would buy another from these developers.

Captures the feeling of classic CRPGs

I havent finished the game yet, but I want to recommend it to anyone looking for a game that resembles the old classics like Baldurs Gate. Its not on the same level like the games it tries to emulate, but so far it positively surprised me several times. The music and art (character portraits, items in inventory) are especially well done and thats worth a lot in my book. It has a similar medieval old school style like Baldurs Gate which I personally prefer over modern fantasy like Dragon Age. Unfortunately there are moments when you can tell that this game was made on a small budget, but as a Kickstarter supporter of this project I know that the development team is eager to improve this game further. Im looking forward to future updates but I can already recommend it to anyone looking for a classic isometric CRPG.

Tons of promise, but still needs polish

Normally I would not play and review a CRPG in early access, but I backed the game on kickstarter and they gave me key for early acces so I though why not give it a try. I'm happy to report there is quite a bit of promise showing from this game. I can't say it can stand up to pillars, pathfinder, BG, or the other isometric classics yet, but the visuals are solid, character creation as lots of choices, story has me intrigued enough, and the game play holds it's own. There are issues though, I found the first part of the game to be a bit sudden and awkard, the animations especially in combat are janky, I wish the tool tips gave more information or at least they would make some kind of in game encyclopdia where I could look info up, and just lots of little things here or there, loading times are not the best (it wasn't too bad for me since I have an SSD but I can tell it would be much worse without one), occasional stuttering in the city maps (very minor, but noticable). I would summerize that the game has a very solid foundation build so far, it just needs a lot more polish. That is really what most early access games should be. If you like classic Isometric RPGs then give this game a chance.
