Description
You don't know where you are, or who is in control, even the most essential concepts of identity have been stripped from your mind. Only the realization that something is not as it should be makes you take control of your destiny to rise, seek answers and fend for yourself in an insane and nebulous reality. Make your way through different indoor and outdoor environments, and get swept into a breath-taking drama upon which the fate of the universe depends. When you break free of your security cell, you enter a laboratory set on the ruins of an ancient and long-dead alien civilization. Fighting your way through superior forces vies with the need to discover alternative ways of manipulating yourself and others.

BioForge is an action-adventure game that was one of the first to feature fully textured 3D characters over pre-rendered backgrounds. In this unique cyber-thriller you collect items and solve mind-bending challenges to discover the secrets of your imprisonment and recover your lost identity. Fight against your robotic and human oppressors using a combination of melee weaponry and guns. Break out of your prison and show your foes what you’re made of. Half metal, half flesh, all vengeance!
  • Interactive backgrounds: from ground-to-air weaponry, to monitors, and projectile reflective surfaces.
  • Lifelike, fluid animation with 24 powerful combat maneuvers and beautifully rendered alien backgrounds.
  • Your choices throughout the game determine your former identity from a list of experimental subjects.

Forget Looks, It's What's Inside!

This game is a blast from the past, and somehow it's still fabulous. But let's get real; there are a few things you'll have to swallow with a pinch of salt to truly savor this vintage masterpiece: 1. Gag-worthy graphics: Honey, if you think these visuals were the crème de la crème of 1995, you must be dreaming! Even back in the day, players had to squint through the pixelated mess. But hey, at least the devs tried to push the envelope, bless their hearts. It's like the first Resident Evil; ambitious, but not quite as pretty as it could be. 2. Clumsy controls: Oof! I had to deduct a star for the utterly tragic controls. It's like trying to ice-skate in high heels while running from point A to point B. Imagine the original Resident Evil controls, but now add hand-to-hand combat to the mix. Talk about a hot mess! You might get used to it, but it'll still be a thorn in your side. Now, if you can look past those two tiny imperfections, you're in for an absolute treat! This game is like a delicious cake with a rich, complex, and sometimes creepy story filling. It's all about discovering who you are and why you're in this peculiar predicament. The plot may seem simple at first, but it'll soon have you tangled in its web of intrigue. Forget about achievements, loot boxes, or frag counters, darling. This game is like an interactive graphic novel served with a side of puzzles, fights, and time challenges. It's the perfect blend of Sci-Fi and Mystery, and it'll have you coming back for more. So, indulge in this quirky classic, and let it take you on a wild ride!

When time is not kind

The story centers around your character that wakes up as a cyborg in an unknown facility and you try to find out your past and why you were transformed into a human-machine hybrid. The graphics are like Alone in the Dark, using a 3D engine and of course it looks aged, while Crusader is still pleasing, Bioforge looks very dated and downright ugly at times. The sound design still holds up but the voice acting is spotty and awkward but the enviromental sounds are great to listen to and evokes a great atmosphere. The writing is Origin's usual: very well writen and keeps you guessing until the end with some unexpected twists and turns along the way. What the games fails to deliver is a good gameplay. The controls are one of the most awkward and clunky that I've ever played. It utilizes "tank controls" like Resident Evil or Alone in the Dark with fixed camera angles but the combat is the worst aspect of the game, it's very stiff and hard to to the moves and the camera doesn't help either. One innovative aspect of the game is the interactive enviroments, which adds immersion factor and makes some battles interesting because you need to use the enviroment to win. Overall, Bioforge is a mixed bag. It has a really good story and a innovative way of telling it accompanied by a excelent sound design, the graphics are dated and the stiff gameplay don't help. I recommend this game only if you want to know some of Origins less known titles.

They never made the sequel.

I have mixed feelings about this game: It's a solid game which I played for extensively (though this is mostly due to its difficulty). Other people have commented on various aspects of it, so I won't get into the technical aspects of it too much, but there is one segment in particular where you need drop-dead perfect timing. I always considered it to be along the same lines or even a pre-cursor to System Shock, but it isn't as good. This is also a relatively short game and while the story is great, it's unfinished. My guess there was supposed to be a sequel, but it never happened. At any rate, if you are curious about one of the first 3D games, what they were like and how they played, then buy this one. Otherwise, it's a pass. I loved this game when I was 19 or so, I finished it, and I never looked back. I don't suppose any of you will either.

First game I ever bought

Bioforge is a game I will never forget. It was the first game I bought and the first game I completely loved playing. Considering the time period this game came out it was a video game marvel. It may not stack up with how games have evolved since it's day but this is definitely one that broke the mold in its time and I would definitely enjoy playing it again if for nothing more then nostalgias sake.

A blast from the 90's.

When this game was released on the PC, it was in a way groundbreaking. The graphics were what set this game apart from any other, together with the action adventure style you just couldn't find those days. The game had bugs and it was very difficult to run even to something as close as Windows 95. For some it did, for others it didn't. It's a sci fi adventure in action form, plenty of searching and fighting. The graphics were at the time just to die for, although as with most games of the mid to late 90's, they were quickly surpassed by newer technologies. I can't give an honest recollection of how really good the game is, but in my opinion it is worth collecting alone for it's place in the history of gaming, even if this isn't your favourite type of game.
