Bio Menace

I remember this game from preschool times... God, how awesome this thing was! Huge thanks to GoG for putting it here. (Quick tip: don't forget to take the nuke given the chance.)

Wonderful game and also free! You just go around city, sewers or labs shooting a lot of monsters and throwing different kinds of grenades. Shooting is pretty fun and platforming too. Also, levels are not completely linear so you have to explore and do a little backtracking. You have to think to figure out how to finish some levels, and how to avoid getting killed. If you try to rush it towards the end of the levels, you may lose all your lives in a row. There are many hidden areas that are really fun to discover too. Graphics and sound aren't great and make the game look like it's not a big deal, but believe me, it's just FUN if you are up to the challenge. Go get it!

This is one of those games I had a shareware version as a kid but never played the full game. So what we have here is a pretty good classic platformer with a lot of shooting. The control is very smooth and it's fun to blow up enemies. The enemies come in all kind of shapes and sizes. The designers really used some imagination when coming up with these creatures and robots. Your main weapon is the gun but you can also find grenades and mines. Some levels are quite difficult but I managed to beat the game. I guess there is re-play value because it isn't too easy. Played on: Linux Mint

This is a great game for GOG to offer as a free bonus, because it pretty much encapsulates the spirit of Good Old Games. Yeah, it's obviously old and the graphics are dated, but the gameplay still holds up and it would be a shame for this game to just disappear and never be played by anyone again. The controls are tight, the graphics are charming and nostalgia-inducing, and the game is challenging and even sometimes frustrating without being unfairly impossible. You'll have to tread carefully, seek out extra lives and secret levels, and make good use of your reflexes and strategy, but the game is just forgiving enough to keep you wanting to play through to the end. And best of all, our hero is absolutely rocking that math teacher mustache. It's easy to overlook the games that come free with a GOG account, or to assume they're bottom-of-the-barrel junk not worth playing, but there are some gems in there, and this is one of them.
