Try if you like Jigsaw Puzzles...
This game is one of my favorites and I think it relates to my enjoyment of jigsaw puzzles and board games. One of the main difficulty aspects is fitting the awkwardly shaped equipment in limited space, giving it a jigsaw puzzle feel. Some equipment uses less space for larger changes but is usually more expensive (although this can change at higher tech upgrade levels). Some equipment takes longer so you need two or even three in parallell to keep your line running at maximum capacity. There is randomization of who your competitors are (each has a different style of gameplay), the effects (positive and negative) of each ingredient and for negative effects if and how they can be removed by single ingredient processing, price ranges of each ingredient, the machine and concentration range needed to make higher level cures, catalysts (special properties attached to some effects that need to be present for some upgrades to higher level cures), and the need for each cure (both base rate and occasional short term changes). I found the randomization to be similar to how a good board game works, adding nice variation from game to game without having all that much effect on the difficulty. The scenerio variation and quantity is also great and there is custom game design as well. I also appreciate that the worst practices are not necessary in the scenereos I've played so far, which includes getting the top rank on three of the five Advanced scenereos while avoiding most side effects and doing nothing worse than sales reps and the occasional patent. I did play with and recommend the DLC. I highly recommend turning off tab animations from the main menu settings to speed tab changes! I don't remember any crashes although I did notice a few bugs, mostly involving information shown on screen not always updating when it should in a few specific and fairly easy to notice cases. Other games I recommend if this one sounds interesting: Timberborn, Wingspan, Kerbal Space Program.
