Beyond Good & Evil™

This game is very simple , yet very enjoyable , the vibe , the atmosphere , everything is special about this game.

GAME IS GREAT. UBISOFT would not be able to made it again

I'm gonna give my 2c a little differently to this game if only to give balance to gushing brown nosing ones your only likley to see. I'm instead going to list all the gripes i had with this game, i'm going to attack it with venamance. I'm going to smash this game of its pedestal so hard it'll be in peices before it hist the ground, litrally rip this game appart and make the developer cry for his mum. so. here goes.... Controls can be a tiny tiny! bit clunky especially when it comes to the end. (but overall pretty good) i distinctly remember having an issue with lives towards the end in the unpatched version. (this is undoubtably the patched version) errr..... Well that'll teach him..... how long for the sequal?

I decided to get this game because of how much people gush over it, but I'm a little disappointed. It's quirky setting is quite fun, the graphics are good (but very glitchy on my system) and the story is okay, if a little uninspired and very linear, and the puzzles are fairly good without being too frustrating. On the downside, the game is short, about 10 hours. It betrays it's console roots with silly collecting parts (luckily you don't have to collect everything to finish it). The fighting is a simple button mash and rather pointless. The mini-games that might have prolonged the game are ruined by horrible camera angles and controls that make them pretty much unplayable.

I bought this off GOG because of the unanimously positive reviews. There is no doubt to me that this is a very nice game. It's very polished and engaging, with a nice story and great characters. That being said, it's not perfect. For one thing, I found that the gameplay, while entertaining, takes the back seat in this game. It's very simple, and turns out to be quite repetitive eventually. It's also a short game, with little replay value. What makes the game shine is the visual and audio presentation, coupled with the very streamlined design. Beyond Good & Evil is a game that has aged extremely well, the cartoon graphics still feel fresh while succeeding in bringing the characters to life. Overall, I recommend trying out this game. It doesn't do that much in the end, but it's the sort of game that you just can't help but enjoy despite its flaws.
