When the first rays of sunlight rise above the horizon, the beehive slowly wakes up. Hierarchy and diligence are vital for the wellbeing of the whole swarm. So you check your wings, measure the antennae degree of deviation, take orders from the Queen, and bee-gin your first independent mission. And that's just the beginning of your adventures. Suddenly, you learn that people want to cut down the tree that holds your hive. Now your fate – and the fate of your whole family – lies in your small, agile legs and fast wings!
Take part in a race and show your sisters who has the fastest wings in the swarm!
The world of bees is not as carefree as one may think. Wasps and some of the less friendly people will take any chance to ruin your plans. Don't hesitate to use your sting to save your swarm from enemies.
You are the master of air acrobatics. Your sisters are eager to mirror your smooth dance moves. So perform your famous waggle dance and show them the way back to the hive.
Explore the park thoroughly – visit even the deepest corners to look for rare plants and special flowers in order to collect the best pollen.
• A unique chance to see the macro scale world from the micro perspective of a honeybee;
• A realistic representation of a place inspired by Central Park;
• Three diverse modes enriched with educational elements:
- One-player story mode presents you with a family of bees. Will you save the hive from the threat of human beings?
- Exploration mode allows you to freely discover a world inspired by Central Park in New York
- Split-screen mode can be either used for cooperation or competition. It includes an additional maps that make the game even more fascinating.*
• A possibility to interact with the surroundings: people, animals, plants, and other insects;
• Lack of violence – it's a perfect choice for parents seeking a game to safely play with their children;
• Relaxing music composed by Mikołaj Stroiński, who was responsible for the soundtrack of such games as The Witcher 3 and The Vanishing of Ethan Carter.
*Please note a controller is required for local multiplayer
I like this game. A game were you play as a bee, gathering pollen and just buzzing around the place? Count me in! I never heard of this game before I bought it, it just popped up on GOG and it was cheap so I bought it for fun. And a lot of fun it was!
You play as a bee in a colony and fly around to gather pollen, fight wasps or race other bees! You need to find the rarest flowers and you get to unlock funny little outfits for the bee and you get a lot of bee related information during loading screens.
Slightly clunky controls but the game doesn't require pinpoint accuracy like Tetris or Space Invaders and the graphics is cute. I love the style they went for and I only wish we could play as a bumblebee but the again this is about honey bees.
I would recommend this game as a slow, nice little way or relaxing. Not a very stressful game it's definately a nice change of pace compared to shooters.
Bee Simulator is an exploration and adventure game with collectathon and mini-game elements. Its story involves a beehive from the point of view of single honeybee controlled by the player. The game has educational value and serves it in an un-forced fashion - even the cutscenes are skippable. The texts needed more proofreading, though.
> Gameplay
The main game consists of flying around, collecting pollen, exploring the surroundings while completing the story. Different areas and types of "challenges" (mini-games) get unlocked while following the main quest.
Completing the "feats" (achievements) is the other part of the game, it consists of filling the "glossary" (lexicon), succeeding in all mini-games, and finishing all sidequests. The achievements are on the easier side but two are missable if one continues the main quest before completing available side quests first which is very annoying in such a type of game. Earned "knowledge" points can be used to unlock 3D-models in the lexicon and cosmetic options for the main character.
> Controls
The controls are optimised for consoles. Most annoying is that remapped keys won't be reflected in tutorials, UIs, and menus. A "reset to default" option is missing. Many menus require a click to make the mouse cursor appear. At least the in-game controls are good.
> Graphics
The visuals are beautiful but limited. Again, optimised for consoles. The drawing distance is low, even on "Ultra" settings which is really annoying as the game encourages to collect rare flowers in quick succession but often that's unachievable because one cannot see where the next one is flying blindly around. Entities such as challenge markers also pop-up when close only. The general level of detail drops incredibly fast at small distances too.
> Audio
Some beautiful tracks in the music and the sound effects are nice.
> Summary
A fun, beautiful, and interesting game but with noticable flaws.
The gameplay is very limited: you have to pass through rings for almost everything (follow another bee, collect butter, etc.).
The graphics are not as beautiful as the screenshots and the trailer, even in Ultra.
Some bugs (black screens).
