Description
The Early Access version of Becastled is available on GOG.com. You can purchase it here. The full 1.0 release is planned for October 23rd 2025.
Becastled is a cozy-meets-challenging strategy game that combines city building with RTS-like tower defense. You are the lord of the Sun Kingdom, leading its final stand against the Moon Beasts.
Design and build your castle, grow a settlement, and prepare your people for the nightly siege. By day, gather resources, place buildings, raise walls, and lay roads, keeping your subjects happy with taverns and decorations. By night, man the battlements, unleash ballistas, and hold the line until dawn.
The siege horns sound at sunset. How long can your fortress hold the dark?
BUILD A CASTLE BY DAY
Transform a humble village into a true medieval city. Lay farms and markets to keep your people fed, gather wood and iron for construction, and raise walls, watchtowers, and gates to protect your keep. Build a fantasy bastion where life flourishes under the sun!
KEEP YOUR PEOPLE HAPPY
Satisfied subjects work harder and fight with greater courage. Sawmills may sour the air, but lively taverns and street decorations lift every spirit. Balance comfort and function to keep your kingdom strong through each long night.
DEFEND AGAINST SIEGES AT NIGHT
At sunset, the Moon Beasts strike with battering rams, siege towers and even dragons. Layer your defenses with walls and iron gates, rain fire with catapults and archers, and withstand ever-stronger assaults until sunrise.
TRAIN AN UNSTOPPABLE ARMY
Forge weapons and armor to prepare your warriors for the siege. Advance from basic infantry to an army with ballistas and trebuchets. Archers, swordsmen, and pikemen will fight to the last if you train and equip them well. If the walls fall, rally every villager to defend their home.
TURN THE LAND TO YOUR ADVANTAGE
Hills, rivers, and forests can be your castle’s best allies, offering natural moats and tactical positions. But shifting seasons can betray you. A river shields you in summer but freezes solid in winter, creating a bridge for your enemy. Adapt your defenses and stockpile resources ahead of time.
BUILD, DEFEND, EXPAND, REPEAT
A strong economy fuels a stronger army. Grow your domain, claim new lands, and mine precious Sunstone to raise buildings and keep your people safe.
As your settlement expands, you will push back the forces of the night. But will you have the strength to end the ancient war between the Sunfolk and the creatures of the Moon?

Looks great, pleasant music, shipped a bit too early I think.
The AI pretty much kills it. I tried 3 games and each time the lumberjacks just stand next to trees not doing anything. Your resource income is now 0 and you can't do anything. I unassigned them, reassigned, tried to move or build new sawmills but they'd eventually just stand there not cutting. There's also no pause which I find odd, but maybe it's a design choice. One second you're building a cozy little town with AFK AI and the next minute there's raiders killing your AFK lumberjacks.
Despite that I think this is a great little game with a lot of potential. I've been getting into city builders lately and this game checks a lot of boxes for me. I doubt the devs bother looking at gog for reviews or feedback, but when you're in early access in February, add a client side feedback system so we can tell you bugs and give criticism easily from within the game/menu. I'm not going to go to some discord and try to talk about a bug with several people.
Will the developpers come check the comments ? Whatever... Here are a few thoughts about the beta:
- Why oh why can't I just scroll by pushing the edge of the screen with the mouse cursor like in any other game of that type?
- Sometimes I was unable to build for a while and I didn't know why. The building menus simply wouldn't show up.
- At some point the tutorial asks to train archers but doesn't explain how to do that. I couldn't find barracks or any other military type of building. Of course my village got attacked, burned down and leveled and there was nothing I could do about it.
- I noticed minor graphical bugs, like for example character animation stuck on a walk cycle while not moving.
Good point: my old computer is slightly under the minimum requirements but the game still manages to deliver around 18-20 fps with full options except AA at 2560x1440 resolution. Good job.
The game is very interesting. Even with its not very extensive tutorial and the need to start over and over again, because you made mistakes that cannot be made up for.
The stage I get to in the tutorial is "have 40 archers before day 8". However, developing your city to such a level requires learning the rest of the mechanics on your own.
The attractiveness of cells, for example - mechanics that are not mentioned in the tutorial, and which must be mastered in the next game.
Getting to know these mechanics on your own is not a bad experience, the game itself is very enjoyable. However, without rebuilding the tutorial, you can get a lot of negative feedback.
I ususally don't play many games of this kind, but this one really is something special. It takes the standard for these games, basically something very basic and adds a lot to it. There are other games that do similar or the same. But the art style for this one definitely adds a lot of charm. Definitely recommend playing the demo for yourself or watching someone play it. Only issue I had was a minor crash. Couldn't load it up again because I was tight on time for the day, but the crash isn't an issue since saves exist.
Not usually my cup of tea. i also dont usually write reviews but this game is amazing. awesome twist on the classic city builder done right. If an early access code were to somehow fall into my hands i would definetly do a full video on my youtube
