One of the greatest sci-fi strategy games of all time returns with remastered visuals and online multiplayer.
Enter an alternate vision of the 1960s where the “space race” is nothing more than a cover for an interplanetary war between the US and Soviet Russia over mysterious alien bio-metal.
Take command of an army of sleek heavy assault tanks, strike cruisers, APCs and more, and wreak havoc with super-heated projectiles in your mission to blast your enemy from the face of the Moon, Mars, Venus, Titan, Io and Europa.
Scavenge the battlefields for crucial bio-metal, deploy powerful defenses, construct advanced facilities and escalate each battle to an epic confrontation.
Revolutionary, revitalised and remastered, Battlezone 98 Redux’s blend of thrilling first person action and tense RTS gameplay is as essential now as it ever was.
Two Explosive Campaigns - Play as American or Soviet forces in two separate singleplayer campaigns, with 29 missions across 7 different planetary environments.
Sleek Remastered Visuals - Play Battlezone 98 as it should have been, in HD with completely remodelled vehicles and buildings, enhanced lighting and shadows, improved particle effects, upgraded animations, upscaled terrain, and more.
Online Multiplayer for 2-8 players - Experience the classic rush of "Deathmatch", or test your skills in a pulse-pounding battle of wits in "Strategy" mode.
A great prequel to my favorite RTS, Battlezone 2. While this game is about the conflict of humans, the next one brings in aliens and makes the story more complicated.
The atmosphere grips you, the graphics grips you, the sound and music, just great. But the gameplay is the coolest since it lets you get involved as a soldier in the field.
Just pick your side and go for it, there is no looking back here!
Props to Rebellion for getting these old games back on a modern platform and making them look nice; I had no problem running the game. Unfortunately this is a case where nostalgia of playing this on the N64 did not live up to reality. Compared to the second game (also on GoG), the base building and unit command is primitive. It also doesn't have an obvious Instant Action mode that lets you play matches against the AI on different maps. My recommendation is if you're a fan of the second game, stick with that!
I was excited to see that the game was re-done to work on newer systems, but I was quickly disappointed by it. I don't remember all of the friendly units being made out of aluminum, and the enemy units being made out of titanium. My turrets and tanks are quickly destroyed, and the enemies are quite resilient. Even changing the difficulty doesn't seem to help.
The display doesn't fill out the entire screen, and mouse movement is sluggish.
I've been playing video games since the early 70's, and when this game came out in it's original arcade version I loved it....so it was a no-brainer pick'n this up. I play PC, Console, and Tablet games even today. In this case I chose to play this game on my other PC/Console....Alienware Alpha (i5) w/Microsoft 360 controler option. In the options/joystick/controler I selected the Micro 360 controler option....but the game won't play using this option. I don't play keyboard/mouse if I have the option, but the game did offer another Joystick option....but not for my Microsoft Precision Pro or Force Feedback. I'll switch this rating when or if I ever get it working.....
