Description

City combat is center stage in this expansion, introducing new street features including blocked lines of sight, collateral damage rules, and all sorts of new destruction. Weigh the hazards and benefits before going into urban battle, though - explosions, floods and more await. With new urban challenges, the return of lost technologies, new ‘Mechs, vehicles, encounters and flashpoints, Urban Warfare takes the BATTLETECH experience to new, gritty heights.

KEY FEATURES:

Urban Warfare - Street brawls introduce new tactical gameplay challenges as ‘Mech combat moves from wide-open natural landscapes to vast urban sprawls. Every building in the new urban biome is fully destructible, so you’re never more than a few salvos away from a new line of sight, or the defensive cover of high-rise rubble. Abandoned explosive fuel trucks, destroyed coolant exchanger buildings, and broken electrical transformers that disrupt targeting will drastically change the battle as you go.

Electronic Warfare - The return of these lost technologies will forever change the 31st century battlefield. ‘Mechs equipped with Electronic Countermeasures (ECM) and nearby friendly units are obscured from enemy targeting systems and immune to indirect fire. Meanwhile, ‘Mechs equipped with Active Probe can reveal, locate, and target enemy units that would otherwise be hidden.

Two New BattleMechs - The experimental Raven 1X sports an advanced electronic warfare package that combines ECM and Active Probe systems into a lightweight component. The Javelin is a compromise between speed and firepower, with close-range knockout power.

New Flashpoints - A wide variety of new branching short stories that link together mercenary missions, crew conversations, special events, critical choices, and rare bonus rewards.

Three New Enemy Vehicles - The Gallant Urban Assault Tank sports a variety of weapons to fight at all ranges with speed and agility, the Packrat is a battlefield support vehicle equipped with a prototype version of ECM, and the Rotunda is a reconnaissance vehicle equipped with a prototype version of Active Probe.

New Encounter - Attack and Defend is a challenging new mission type where your mercenaries must destroy an enemy’s base to stop a steady stream of attackers before they can overcome your forces and knock out your employer’s base.

Buying not enough to access new content?

I've played about 30 extra hours since I installed Urban Warfare; I have yet to encounter the new mech (Raven) and the new ECM mechanics. As I understand, they are unlocked by completing a particular flashpoint but in my playthrough, that flashpoint spawned on the other side of the map and I couldn't reach it in time. Why make access to the new content so elusive? If you buy the DLC I don't think you should have to chase the game so hard to enjoy the new stuff. The other new mech (Javelin) is disappointing; since it's light, it's OK for very early game missions but soon you'll sell it or scrap it. The new maps (urban) look nice but don't offer much new in the way you tackle missions. However, I did enjoy the new flashpoints; they are generally well-written and keep new playthroughs feeling fresh and varied. But ultimately, a DLC has to offer more than that to catch the sale. Urban Warfare is fine if it's cheap but without discounts, its way overpriced.

Ok, I guess.

Took ages before I got to see a city. You have to pic a full ` City` planet (I always thought you`d get cities mostly anywhere a world had civilisation, but no). It`s ok. The BattleTech art style has always felt `off` to me, still does here. Mechs can jump up and down on buildings. Buildings collapse quite easily. Annoyingly, every tower falls straight down. nobody seems to realise that towers don`t just freely fall straight down in its own place (despite what we may have seen in one famous real world incident). Buildings should collapse somewhat randomly depending on force and where it came from. But now every building must just fall straight down. Cars just explode when walked over, they aren`t pushed aside or crushed or tryingto get out the way. You don`t see any little sprites of people - ever. The AI doesn`t do anything special with it. They usually jump on a building, you shoot building, they fall and get their legs damaged. AI`s not clever with it. To sum up, you get a big cityscape in a limited border and it`s a nice change from the usual environment, that`s it- oh and I think you get a new mech or two. Nothing to shout about. It`s ok, I guess.

Disgusting practices

Remember the 90's? when DLC's were called expansions? and expansions had actual content added to titles? making them fresh, new and exciting.. well welcome to 2019, where DLC's are the norm, and the content within Battletech DLC's is beyond a joke, 2 new mechs? and one of those was promised for the base game, its frustrating to have backed this project. Comparing a company that releases DLC's like this, to Cancer would be accurate. I didnt think they would do this after watching all the pre-release videos of the devs, but alas they spat in our face. Go **** yourself Harebrained Schemes for selling out.
