Battle Brothers - Warriors of the North

Oh Battle Brothers, how terrible are thee, let me count the ways. The name of the game is Battle Brothers, but battle is where this game fails miserably. There is zero way to calculate what your hit percentages are, and if there is some way to do it, I can't see because the UI scales too small for 4K monitors, even with a 200% increase. You will literally just listen to whoosh sounds as your team continues to miss swing after swing and battles where you outnumber the enemy over 2 to 1 are still most likely to be lost because your brothers can't hit the broad side of a barn. This is on Veteran setting. I can't even imagine how much worse it would be on the hardest difficulty. I'm guessing that the people giving this 5 stars have not played such treasures such as the original Final Fantasy tactics, any Fire Emblem game, or Suikoden if you want to go back to PS1. Those were tactics games done right. This.... not so much.

This game has units, not characters. It has no real rpg elements outside of lite unit development. The combat is not really involved or good. I just don't understand the popularity. I love some non-rpg games such as Jagged Alliance 2 (especially with 1.13) and X-Com type games - this game is more like them than an actual rpg, but worse in every conceivable way. It has no actual content. You get a contract and go get in one fight and go back. Its extremely simplistic and sophomoric. Its some new age hipster bate that offers nothing to anyone looking for a deep and involved game experience with rpg elements. I group it with other hipster games with units like Darkest Dungeons that people claim are rpgs, or FTL. It plays a little like Low Magic Age or Monster's Den, except with units instead of characters and no dungeons. I also did not like Low Magic Age or Monster's Den personally, but at least I can understand why people would consider them to be rpgs or like them. If you disagree with me thats fine. People like what they like. But I would much rather prefer actual reasons and logic versus just pure name-calling.
