Description

The 'Blazing Deserts' DLC for Battle Brothers expands the game with new lands of burning deserts and lush oases to the south. Visit independent city states, fight in the arena, face desert raiders and southern beasts in battle. Wear new gear inspired by Arabian and Persian cultures of the medieval ages, employ alchemical contraptions and primitive firearms, and forge your own path when the fires of religious turmoil threaten to engulf the world in a new late game crisis.

Features:
  • New Lands - Visit new lands to the south with independent city-states that have their own lore, equipment and services, as well as entirely new character backgrounds to recruit.
  • Retinue - Hire non-combat followers for your retinue to customize your campaign experience to fit your playstyle. Hire a drill sergeant to train your men. Never lose shields again with a blacksmith that can repair gear no matter how damaged. Buy carts for additional inventory space.
  • Arena - Fight in front of cheering spectators to earn coin, experience and unique rewards as an alternative to mercenary work.
  • New Crisis - Survive a new late game crisis that tests the mettle of your company in the fires of religious turmoil.
  • New Opponents - Face new factions of city state soldiers and desert raiders, complete with their own gear and unique mechanics. Hunt down and get hunted by desert beasts.
  • New Origins - Play using one of three new southern-themed origins, each with special rules that shape your campaign into a different experience from beginning to end.
  • New Banners and Gear - Dress in style with a collection of new banners, shields, helmets and armors inspired by Arabic and Persian culture. Use new weapons, alchemical contraptions and primitive firearms.
  • Legendary Location - Visit a new legendary location and fight a new boss in a quest that leads to a legendary reward.
  • New Location Environments - Fight amidst southern ruins and nomad tents on the tactical combat map, in addition to graveyards and encampments by brigands, orcs and goblins that come with a free update to the base game.
  • New Contracts and Events - Earn your stay in the south by taking on new contracts. Immerse yourself in leading a mercenary company with even more illustrated events.
  • New Music - Several new music tracks set the mood on your adventures.
  • New Achievements - Challenge yourself with new achievements.

Please note: You'll be able to continue your current campaign with the DLC, but you won't have access to all of the new content until you start a new campaign. Starting a new campaign is very much recommended.

Great expansion for the great game!

Now as I've reached day 55 ingame, I can say that playing as southern Crownling (sellswords) company feels totally fresh, almost as playing another game! New environments, new flavour text for everything, new items etc etc... great! Only one downside - most of the new content is concentrated in a relatively small area far in the world's southern part. And staying there forever is like to limit yourself artificially. Also the problem is once in a while you'll be almost forced to go to the north with caravan or "cargo shipping" contracts. And it's kinda hard to avoid it as there just might not be any other contracts available at the moment! And once you end up in the north, you might get trapped in a cycle of "complete a new contract - end up traveling further north - get another contract - go even further north", thus detaching yourself more and more from most of this DLC's content. Kinda shame (I also haven't found any "cultural difference" events for southerns in the north)... However, it doesn't has to be this way, it's just a very possible outcome of a natural playthrough. If you want to concentrate on the DLC's beautiful content - just try to return to the south more often)))

Man hunting has never been so easy!

It will be so easy, me and Jorah have it all laid out.... our plans for mercenary glory. Force some indebted recruits hold town opponent's whilst we simply hurl stones at the enemy. If any of our unpaid recruits get worried we simply whip them back into shape. So we bought four guys and set off to make our fortunes. First contract was a simple caravan escort upland, easy work for 300 gold. Halfway up by the mountain pass we were ambushed by some bandits, easy pickings as long as you let the caravan hands take the bulk of the damage . Heck one bandit even survived and quickly joined our merry band (well me and Jorah felt merry, the new guy was a bit distressed with the chains round his neck). Second contract also looked promising, we basically needed to find a local area of interest, some abandoned ruins in the forest nearby. Again it was smooth sailing, we spotted it in no time and just like that another 200 gold in our pockets (mine and Jorah's pockets that is). We bumped into a small group of thugs in the way back, sure one indebted got a broken nose and another got a nasty gash on his arm, but just like that we added another recruit to our ranks. Boosted by our victories I even picked up a couple of round shields for the indebted to help stave off any critical damage, not that I care about their wellbeing but it's expensive to purchase new indebted if they start dropping in the field. Jorah pointed out that I could have spent that money on treating there injuries instead, but wounds heal anyway and if they do fall in battle I can always pick up the shield and give it to someone else. We also spotted a eunuch in town looking rather dejected. We offered him a job as we could do with the help now our indebted outnumbered us 3-1. We called him Lady his best feature is now cheap he is willing to work. Our next contract is to hunt down some spiders in the forest. Sure it's getting dark and I can't make out were they are but how hard can it be?

Great DLC but...

Let me just start that the game really feels refreshed after this dlc and it is worth it`s price. It contains great content and I really enjoy fighting in the arena, all new weapon/armor sets, the holy war event and some south related quests like for example indebted revolts. The problem started, when I encountered the handgunners; yes after couple of battles I have applied new tactics, but a note to the devs: these guys are waaaay OP :) Either they should fire each consecutive turn, or with decreased accuracy, as my line can`t withstand the volleys at 60-65% chance to hit totally melting armor. Apart from that little issue, the best DLC so far.

Terrible DLC: Don't buy.

Why you shouldn't buy it 1. Adds a bunch of OP weapons that don't work very well in the combat system. 2. Crusade late game crisis often has you fighting multiple battles in a row with no chance to manage inventory or rotate inventory. 3. Adds new factions which don't really add anything to the game 4. Excessive power creep. No signs of an attempts to balance. 5. AI still cheats; higher stamina recovery, resolve, etc. than they should have and enemy party sizes play by different rules than the player.
