So much fun
I don't know exactly what it is, but I've sunk immense amounts of hours into this game.

This is a game for Men
Others will whine and cry and blame the devs for hurting them.

Intriguing, but ultimately disappointing
Note: base game only, no DLC Three stars is a bit generous, as the *shallow gameplay loop* + artificial difficulty make for a disappointing experience. This is really a shame, because the tactical elements as well as the aesthetic (graphics, sound and music, and world building) are satisfying! I purchased on sale and was nevertheless sorely tempted to refund. I decided not to, as I may enjoy coming back for another run now and then. Perhaps it will grow on me?

A truly excellent game.
This game is a leader in the tactical combat genre. The only complaints I have are that more could be done with contracts and storytelling - but it outclasses any other game in the genre by leaps and bounds for the past several years.

Decent but way too random
This is game has a fairly good combat system and okay party management. But it's way to random in many aspects. The battle maps are one of these places that are way too random. In EVERY BATTLE regardless of whether you're attacking, defending, or ambushed, you are just plopped onto a random map. It's especially retarded when you're attacking since you can be put at a huge disadvantage just from rng. If you want to attack a camp it makes the most sense to approach from the side where you have an advantage or no disadvantage and the same thing with any party you're chasing. You're the attacker so you should be able to choose where exactly you fight. But because of the map generation and no deployment phase in combat, you have to start in the worst position on those maps. Recruits are also way too random. The stronger backgrounds are all overpriced for what you get statwise. Who cares about their. By time you hire them you have better gear than what they come with. Unless you get lucky with them, you'll get better bros from just hiring cheap guys and getting lucky with the talents. Town events are retarded and immersion breaking. Someone farts in the town's direction and suddenly prices are doubled on all goods. This is all controlled through pure rng. Some contracts have retarded rng. Delivery quests for example have you approached through an event by a mercenary group trying to steal the package. However, there is no such party on the map and you don't get to see any such party. So your band shouldn't confronted by the party since they otherwise don't exist. Events in general are retarded. Most of the time they're either they're pointless and are just a random wall of text or you get severely punished simply for bad rng and clicking the wrong button to get out of the event.
