can't stand the gaming system anymore.
I loved AD&D when I was a kid.... but really... that's enough of it.
Even in this computer-revised version I come to hate the whole mechanics.
I haven't played the game but neither has any one of the people bombing the game with 1-star reviews because there's a minor npc who happens to be trans. Is this what ethics in games journalism looks like?
Hey hey hey, it seems that there's some kind of campaign to sink this game just because of little LGBT-friendly content. Yes, I do not like such a forced offer of alignment as well, but hey people, I guess we have been heard already, and this mistake isn't that big to ruin such nice beginnings. The game is brilliant. Stop the battle march.
The pros:
- Really good voice acting;
- Good ol' friends!
- ADVENTURE, DRAGONS, LICHES!
- Awesome art;
- Nice sound fx, ambience, etc.
- The dialogs are interesting and worth of reading;
- This is ol' nice BG feeling game;
- Music is great, new and old are mixed well and seamlessly.
- Humor is at the level, sometimes you just laughing at jokes and dialog choices.
The cons:
- New NPCs are fairly poor and not interesting. Tell you more, flaming fist archer is so boring, so I'd prefer to get rid of her despite her very good combat skills;
- The plot seems to have some weak spots, but it is too early to say about.
- Social justice bull****! BG WAS TOO SEXIST?? Oh, get out!
Well, in the end, against all odds, it is a good, very good journey in the Sword Coast. I definitely recommend this game.
Read all of these low star reviews. They are about gender identity. Pay attention to the game, not the incredibly small role a flat-character transgender NPC plays. In that sense, it is good. It feels like a Baldur's Gate game, and is in the spirit of the series. That is what matters here, not the liberal agenda people are accusing Beamdog of pushing.
Ah, gamers- not all of us are sad little boys with castration complexes, really. Most of us are grown men over thirty with castration complexes. Situations like this make me wonder if the gaming community will EVER improve... Part of growing up is learning how to share. And by grow up, I mean past age six or seven. I know it's hard to accept stories not tailor-made specifically just for you, but that's what porn is for. When it comes to the rest, we respect stories about other people. For those of you who think this should be "only about the game/writing, not the politics," take a look at your comrades who are so quick to make disturbing comments about transgendered people and women and ask yourself what you're really trying to say, and who you want to associate yourself with.
