Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition

For starts i wanna say I've never played oryginal version and this run was my very first contact with entire game. When you play you absolutely can feel this game is old - it works on dd 2.0 and can be quite... unforgiving. You die often, sometimes its suprising and other times you really deserved it. Active pause and quick load are your best friends. Still, prepare for some frustration along the way. I realy enjoyed background sounds - all these wind whistles, bird's chirping and so on. Voice acting is quite funny, many npc talk with such artificial, pompous manner it's impossible to take them seriously. Still, narrator's voice is amazing and made me always sit and wait until he finished talking, even after I read story quicker. Visuals are a bit blurry, but hey, this game is over 20 years old, what did you expected? In the end I enjoyed the expierience and plan to play second part soon. Giant plus for making it stable, I never had any bug or problem except for one side-quest. You can try it if you like old-school RPG, to understand what was cool 2 decades ago ;)

It works flawlessly on the modern machine. Since I've never played the original I love this title.

"Enhanced for Modern Platforms" Untrue. Requires libssl 1.0 which has been removed for very good reasons from any relevant distro for years. You would need to go back to an ubuntu 16.04 based distro to get the game to run on it out of the box. Problem known for years, no reaction, a 2022-10 download still won't run without very technical workarounds. Support won't be helping you as you won't be able to get past that moronic chat bot. "Your review should focus on in-game experience only" Sorry, We buy GOG _because_ you used to solve these kind of problems for us. Ease of getting a game to run is a vital part of the experience.

I've been playing this game and it's sequel since they first came out, and that was about 25 years ago. Thanks to the enhanced editions it was possible to play them on more modern PCs. Thank you Beamdog for that! Whoever has the will try and give them a chance won't be dissapointed. Enyoy and spread the word.

This game is simply one of the best RPGs of all time, still worth a replay after more than 20 years!
