A solid D&D experience

I found this game very enjoyable, and even though the original is half the price I still think this game is worth the price if you really don't want to bother installing mods and fixing things for yourself, plus it adds 2 new interesting characters (in my opinion), it adds new areas, some new quests for the new companions, brings katanas into BG1, dual wield and allows for more stacks of arrows. The game starts really slow though, it might even be tedious for some, and I would have to agree on that point, low level D&D is usually very uninteresting, but this game really drew me in and made it fun, I personally loved going around the world, finding quests, necromancers, sorcerers and random encounters with mercenaries, and the role-playing is fantastic, there are so many options in dialogue, combat and how you explore the world, and that is fantastic. While it may be tedious for the first hours, the story developes really nicely, the story is interesting and the exploration and role-playing is top notch, it is absolutely worth a playthrough (and several more) if you even slightly enjoy role-playing games.

Gem. Worth the EE over complete

I got bg1 EE from Steam and now BG from GoG. And I also own complete sagas from GoG Having played all I can say that the Enhanced Edition IS worth the extra cas (on sale only :) ). Let's face it, BG is dated. The features from EE that new players will see are: - No modding , configuring hassle (its not an issue to me, but to others it is!) - very enhanced UI: fits screen and has more options , more "modern" - Zoom in Zoom out, Map- this is just major, gamplay is improve too much by this - Journal - it was useless before ==Note that EE is better today than when it was released, they have improved a lot!. == True there are some unpopular changes (some quests I think?) But the major complain is the new characters which are bad, but you can just ignore them - you will always ignore 15+ NPCs anyways Conclusion: EE is about gameplay and game experience. If you have to install BG a few times you will really appreciate how theres no need of modding, save files get less corrupt. When you ply the game this way you wont go back since it is visually better in every way

Worth the money

The gameplay and UI enhancements are refreshingly wonderful. They remove any and all of the little annoyances present in the original, perfecting a game that was near perfect to begin with. The new characters, class kits, and areas are extra, but not really necessary.

A bit disappointing

People usually ask if better play this first or go directly to the second. After finishing this one I would have gone to the second (hopefully, as I havent played it yet). I found the story on this one quite boring and forgetable. Added to dated gameplay mechanics and lack of information overall (about enemies abilities and vulnerabilities, spells areas, status effects not telling you what they do... and a long etc.) Of course it has other things going on, like sense of adventure, nice graphics, freedom of choice and exploring, music... but I feel that you can get the same experience from the second part? I hope that one is as good as they say.

Does not boot on Linux

Despite there being a Linux version, it will not run if your system is up to date at all because it depends on outdated libraries, and the idea of downgrading them to run a a modern version of this game is ridiculous. /GOG Games/Baldurs Gate Enhanced Edition/game/BaldursGate: error while loading shared libraries: libssl.so.1.0.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory My current version of this library is 1.1 on Linux Mint 20.3 In the process of attempting a fix from the forum, but if that doesn't work I'll have to download the Windows version of the game and try using Lutris.
