One of my Favorite Xbox Original Games

Seriously, this game was so much fun when it came out. It had a type of New Game+ feature as well so you can actually use all that super powered gear and special quest bonuses against regular baddies as well. I played through basically every character class as well when replaying with my (now) ex-wife and people I used to hang out with. Low stress action adventure RPG, without the issue of graph paper mapping, and having to worry about 20 decisions that have permanent impact on character growth 20 hours later in the game. Also you can go back to areas to finish clearing them out. So much less stress than the most heavy RPGs where you 90% of decisions are "Do I make this person hate me/die and leave game, or this person hate me/die leave the game."

The DEFINITION of "good old game"!

I remember playing the first Dark Alliance as a kid, but I never played the second game. All I have to say is "WOW". This game, even in 2024, is incredibly fun and addicting. The only gripe I have is with the combat being really precise. Even with the Barbian, you have to be at the right angle to hit the enemy. Other than that, this game is great and I'm holding onto hope that this series gets a reboot.

Great game; port needs a few fixes

Tested running the native Linux version on a Steam Deck, and on a desktop with Pop_OS 22.04 and Windows 10. I have previously played this game to death on the original Xbox version, mostly in co-op, so it's likely tinted with a lot of nostalgia, but I think it's a great game. There are no added frills here - no extra content, no DLC, no microtransactions (thankfully!). The original game still stands up on its own, so if you liked it then, you'll probably still like it now. If you've never played it but would enjoy a fairly casual hack-'n-slash that's good in single-player and great in co-op, give it a go. The game does need a few fixes for this port though; in co-op, players don't share gold like the original game, and there seems to be no option to toggle this. Multiplayer is, like the original release, local only - you'll need two controllers and play on the same screen; no online multiplayer is available, which is a shame but somewhat expected of a straight port. If there were online, I'd expect it to be cross-platform, which is a bigger task - perhaps the developers will add this, or a mod will enable some of the options which would have been nice-to-have on a modern PC platform. Overall it's still a solid game, nitpicking aside.

A bit better than the predecessor

The PC port of this PS2 game is done like the predecessor, so mouse + keyboard controlling is just too clumsy. Once again a Xbox controller is must to have for the full gaming enjoyment. Everything works the same like in the predecessor: the combat, blocking and the gameplay. Ranged combat seems better with some sort of auto-aim which sometimes target things like barrels in the heat of combat. There are more character classes to choose which gives more replay value than in the predecessor. Though I'm not sure if the classes are equal especially for the final boss battle which is messy, unclear and disapointing. There are also some improvements like possibility to dual-wield weapons, better ranged weapon selection, more enemy types and few side quests to complete. There are less magical equipments to be looted, but you can make your own magic equipments by using rune stones and different gems. First, I had no clue how did this magic item crafting work. After some google search I finally got the idea. Though the magic bonuses from the gems are very minor and the whole process can be very costly. The game gets quite repetitive eventually. There is only one merchant in the game who has not much good to sell, and there is not much use of money besides buying things and the magic item crafting. The game level themes are varied, but the layout is pretty straightforward mostly lke the gameplay generally. Besides, the jumping mechanic is still pointless in this game. Besides, I have noticed that there are some recycled musics from Icewind Dale and recycled ambient sound and SFX sounds from Baldur's Gate PC series.

Solid action-RPG but wait for a sale

The game itself is excellent and the port was okay for me at least when playing with an Xbox 360 controller. Better than the first game but the latter 3rd felt a bit rushed to me. More classes and each class has more options than in the first game. Definitely recommended but wait for a sale.
