Why buy on GOG.COM?
DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play.
I come to gog to buy classic games, not something that was "enhanced". I purchased the original game before the company of the "enhanced" edition took part in taking down the original to sell this. The game adds new content which takes away from the hard work that the original company put into their game, the essence of the original is twisted and ultimately lost. The hard work put into the original is what made the game great. the new content feels like someone's poor attempt at writing themselves into a great story, with little effort and understanding of what made the original story great, while forcing their views and values upon future readers and, taking credit for the whole thing... No, just no.
It is best game of my life.
I bounght oryginal game (BOX 5CD) many, many years ago for 20 PLN, and now to get bug free, digital version i have to pay 70 PLN?
Good luck with that.
5 stars for game
1 star for price
3 stars final result.
I wouldn't bother with this mockery that beamdog released. If you want to enhance graphics, that's great. If you want to patch some technical bugs, fantastic. Don't impose your agenda into a game that was fine the way it was and force people to accept it or get nothing.
I spent well over 100 hours with this game and I'd like to say this is a great follow-up to the first Baldur's Gate. Not only that, but the enhanced editions now flow together much better since all of the options in the second game are in the first one. I did run some minor mods from the Gibberlings website to make the game a little closer to PNP, but for the most part I didn't mod it up too much.
One thing I'd like to comment on is the added characters that Beamdog added to the game. I only have experience using Dorn, but his companion quest in this game was really, really well done. Hopefully the other characters are just as well done. The Throne of Bhaal portion of his companion quest was pretty difficult, but it too was really good.
Speaking of the Throne of Bhaal, this was my first time playing through that expansion and I have to say that the level of difficulty is extremely uneven. Never before in either BG or SoA did I ever have to resort to cheese tactics the way I was forced to here. That definitely hindered my enjoyment of the expansion to say the least. Some of the super difficult fights would then be followed up by a boss that was an absolute joke. The only place from SoA that you can go back to is Watcher's Keep as well. This makes the expansion much more linear than SoA unfortunately. Still, even with these complaints out of the way, I'd probably give this whole package a 4.5 stars realistically. The main game is great, but the expansion is railroady and very difficult.
Probably without a doubt one of the greatest games ever made. The enhanced edition as they are calling it is enhanced if you think, but for me it's really just the widescreen support. The new characters aren't bad (I really don't like Neerah however) but they do come off as beamdog making fanfiction and trying to show off they can write a character you can just avoid them if you want. Honestly other than the new characters and some bugs this port really doesn't bother me, I wish we had the option of turning off the characters if we so like but that has yet to be seen. Beamdog aren't great and wow Siege of Dragonspear is "something else" I don't think they deserve the hate. If you want to play these games pirate them, find the old cds, or buy this, the enhanced edition is not the worse thing my main issue I had is the game wouldn't even launch until I ran as an admin then there was no sound so I had to download a program to make it work. Closing words would be yes I would buy it, but only on sale the gog version comes with the original which doesn't have the new characters or some of the new bugs, so if this version pisses you off just play the originals.
