Description
Feel the power of flying a real B-17! See what it was like to be part of a 10-man crew on dangerous bombing missions over occupied Europe. Realistic graphics, animations, and sounds convincingly recreate every aspect of the strategic air battles in WWII. Twenty five scenarios, in which you must manage your crew’s strengths and weaknesses, test your pilot and leadership skills. This is your team, they are under your command, and it is your job as a captain to complete the mission and take them home in one piece.

This game is a real gem amongst other simulators. With impressive attention to detail and historically accurate missions you can really feel like you are fighting in WWII. Control any of ten different crew positions, seeing the combat as a pilot, one of the gunners, or a communications officer. You can also fly one of the escort planes like P-38 Lightning, P-51 Mustang, and P-47 Thunderbolt. In addition, you are able to switch sides and fight against “The Mighty Eighth” taking the role of a German Luftwaffe pilot and find out first hand why the B-17 bomber codename was the “Flying Fortress”.
  • Become a crew member, in any of ten crew positions, of one of the most powerful and deadly machines of WWII – the B-17 Flying Fortress.
  • Over 25 realistic missions, based on real historical events, in which you must lead your crew to victory.
  • Impressive attention to detail, terrific flight and damage modeling, and historical accuracy give this game a really high educational value.

One of my favorites

Made during the gluttony of WW2 based games, this one was a gem that fell through. It wasn't the most popular but it was a very good game when it came out. Realistic planes, damage, and flak effect. I always loved the flak effects of this game, they still look so realistic even for an 13 year old game. The AI is susppect and normally requires some micromanagement, especially the bombardier who almost always misses without human intervention in the early missions. Overall it is a great flight simulator dedicated to one of the most beautiful planes of all of WW2.

Still amazing

If you are after a simulation that depicts the role of the Stratigic Bomber in WW2 then this is it, It is even today simply amazing and there is no other game that comes close to what it has to offer. Some might point to IL2 and Cliffs over Dover but they don't, the only simulation that can beat the b-17 model in this is the A2A b-17 with Accusim for FSX and that doesn't allow you to really experiance the war side of the bomber. While some may complain about 'outdated' controls, you have to remember this is a SIMULATION not a arcade game, wasd are FPS controls and that's that. I have owned this game since it came out on CD I owned the previous versions including the very old b-17 sim on the C-64 and until a new version comes out with modern technology and the SAME in depth simulation .. then this will always get 5 stars. I will admit that the Fighter Simulation in this is unfinished, but that isn't what your buying the game for.

The game is insanely complex but great !

This game is insanely complex but great !! It is basically a sequel to 1992s B-17 Flying Fortress: World War II Bombers in Action which taxed the crap out of my 386sx. They need B-17 Flying Fortress: World War II Bombers in Action on GOG. You can literally spend 12 hours on one mission

Hyper-realistic

I bought the boxed version (retail) when this game was released. The designers/developers went above & beyond to make this game realistic, from the aircraft to historical accuracy. It had superb polish and graphics at the time of it's release. That said, the game's controls have a steep learning curve and you spend alot of time on various 2d screens (compartments within the bomber) trying to prep your bomber before you can take off and begin a mission. Having played other flight sims before this, B-17 didn't meet my expections. I simply didn't have the patience to learn the controls and wanted a game where I could just take off & immediately start blowing $h!* up.. ;) But if you're patient and don't mind investing hours in learning the controls, it could be worth while. The only Flight-sim that I've played that was more challenging is X-Plane, which is a true flight sim and used to train pilots (or so I've read).

Best b17 sim

I remember getting this game the very day it came out. I have always been in ore of these bombers and the crew that flew them. I have been in a flying B17 and have bullet casings from the making of the film 'Memphis Belle'. The game itself is brill, very accurate in detail and captures the feeling and the terror. I would definitely recommend a joystick for this. It takes a long time to learn the B17 if you want to pilot it. I have spent many a hour in flight ( i prefer to be the pilot ) and i love every second of it. This game is a must have for any flight sim fans out there.
