Description
ATOM RPG is a turn-based post-apocalyptic indie roleplaying game, inspired by classic CRPGs like Fallout 1 - 2, Wasteland, Baldur's Gate and many others.

In 1986 both the Soviet Union and the Western Bloc were destroyed in mutual nuclear bombings. You are one of the survivors of the nuclear Holocaust. Your mission - to explore the wild and wondrous world of the Soviet Wasteland. To earn your place under the sun. And to investigate a shadowy conspiracy, aimed at destroying all that is left of life on Earth.

ATOM RPG is:

  • A powerful character creation tool, aimed at making the wasteland hero you want to portray!
  • A balanced roleplaying system inspired by GURPS. Each stat combination provides a unique gaming experience, unique dialogues, and new ways to solve some of the quests!
  • Dozens of skills, from lockpicking to gambling!
  • Many hours of gameplay on all sorts of locations. Meet the other survivors in a brave new settlement, built from the dust of the old world. Venture into the wilds, where mutated creatures and savage bandits lurk. Work out the secrets of an old military bunker. Or simply lose yourself, fishing at a scenic pond...
  • Turn-based combat, inspired by Fallout 1 and 2.
  • Random encounters with the dwellers of the Soviet Wasteland - both friendly and dangerous. Sometimes all at the same time...
  • Many deep, multiple-choice dialogues that feel like real conversations with the unique NPCs of the game.
  • Nonlinear gameplay! Dozens of quests, each with many alternative solutions. Play the game like You want to!

Not very fun

After all of the hype about this being a Russian Fallout 3, I was dissapointed. People seem to misunderstand what makes Fallout so amazing, the deep net of dialogue to flesh out a character and make their adventure their own, and the ability to play the game however you want and more than likely succeed if you do it smart. ATOM RPG focuses HEAVILY on combat, to the point that I don't think you can do a no-kill run like in Fallout 1 and 2. Despite playing a combat heavy character, Fidel as a companion with both of us kitted out in good gear, we routinely got destroyed by enemies on the lower level parts of the world. You will routinely be outmatched and outgunned to the point of being unfair even on low level quests. You will fight multiple enemies that can inflict 20+ damage a turn while you inflict 3-9 with your rusty pistol. It amazed me to find I was playing the game on easy. I dont think a game with constant save-scumming is a very good RPG. Buy it if you like the game over screens.

Best post apocalyptic RPG since F2

This is the Van Buren dreamt of. Many games are actually going into the post-apocalyptic craze right now, but this is the only one to have got it right since Fallout 2. the feeling is there, the music is there, the in-game references and humor is there but is not overwhelming, the maps are realistic (you do understand how each city feeds and is organized, there are no unkillable monsters lurking a stone's throw away that have mysteriously not yet attacked until you came around) the difficulty is spot-on. Combats are nice, speedy and tactic, just the right difficulty according to your set preference. Levelling also works fine, giving you better chances but not creating too much of an inhuman gap between your PC and civilian NPCs at higher level. Dialogues are short but very well done. They get the post-USSR oligarch feel, the despair, the bore, the mafia.and you can speak to everyone, each has a story, even if only with very standardized questions you can interact with everyone. Worth every cent.

A mix between Fallout and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

I feel the like the game is a 3rd person rpg mix between Fallout and STALKER. Really enjoying the free roaming and non-linear feel to it. You are free to just wonder around and complete some quests and find new items to help you in the long run. If you pay close attention, you will see that there are many cultural and popular game references in the NPC dialogue. You should be aware that you will die a lot, its normal. Just like in Baldurs Gate when you run into an enemy that is out of your league. I save scum, that is that F5 is there for. I really have no complaints, I have not had any technical issues or game breaking bugs. I have not run across anything in the story that took away from the experience. Makes me want to go back and play the Fallout series which I never got around to doing. This has easily become one of my favorite games released in the last couple years. If you like Fallout, Battletech, Dragon Age Origins, Baldurs Gate, IceWind Dale, and those types of games, this one is for you!!!

For Fallout 1 & 2 Fans everywhere

I was a little hesitant to get this, but once I started playing I was totally hooked. The game has a few minor issues that the development team is fixing, but that is a minor blemish on an otherwise awesome game. What I love: the atmosphere of the game, the combat is so much fun, the exploring is exciting, the inventor system is awesome (love how you can sort things), and some hilarious characters you run into. What I don't like, not enough places to explore. If you are a fan of Fallout you can not go wrong with this game.

Enjoyed it till the very End

If I give this game 5 Stars, it is not because it is perfect, but because it is perfectly enjoyable. It certainly has it's flaws, but none of them make You really curse the day You bought it. No, most time, You'll have your joy, plenty of it and that's what matters. However one should become aware of what kind of game one is playing here. Otherwise one might judge it, by what it's not. It is not another Fallout, although there are as many similarities, that one can say, if You like the one game, You will most certainly like the other. However expectation might ruin your day. What I love and value about this game is ... - The multiple different stories and the choices You have. Sometimes the dialog logic might be questionable, but most times they have some good wit. - The fallout 1+2 like Fights with a good range of weapons. - It works on Linux like a charm. - It works on a not to modern Laptop without a noticable Graphics card like a charm. - Lot's of content to play. - The 3D modeled world, which looks nice, but does not try to boast. - At the time of me playing the game, I didn't encounter any bugs! This is remarkable! - The devs still care for the game and it's community. There are some things I don't like so much. They don't hinder me to value this game, but they may take some joy. Most noticable is, that ammo is a rare thing. Whilst this may spice the survival at the start and the early midst of the game, it becomes ridiculus later, when You become a rich brat, but must still change weapons according to the threat level of your enemy, just to save ammunition and are constantly running to every seller you know, just to by a few rounds of ammo. Also I miss the sense of loneliness and loss I felt in Fallout 1+2 and the graphics design is a bit less emotion stirring. (But again, don't compare those titles to much.) The AI of compagnions and enemies is also quite limited, not to say bad - the fights are still fun anyways. I enjoyed the game till the very end!
