Cool fallout like game, not for the faint hearted though as it really has some rough edges and needs more polish. You can actually go to quite a few places start quests etc. just to discover that your character is way to weak yet and can't finish em without going back and leveling up. Apart from that weakness I find it an excellent game for the price and I have already played hours without loosing motivation. A real gem, with some rough edges...
In short the game is true to the Fallout genre. I would even say that it surpasses FO 2 in terms of content. The gameplay is very similar to FO1 and FO2 (I guess on intent). You will found all the elements of a good RPG as well as the good dark humor (as expected).
Strongly recommended for all fans of FO1 and FO2 and CRPG's.
I was really hesitating to buy this game at first, but first positive reviews from Fallout series fans changed my mind. And after finishing it for the second time, this time on expert level, I can admit I'm thinking about playing it for the third time. And each gameplay will be unique. You can't master all skills, therefore you can be a sniper, diplomat, thug, martial arts guru or simply extremely trained survivalist or you can mix all basic skills of each developement branch. The atmosphere is perfect. As a person who remember communism from kid's perspective, this is so much like if this era didn't end, but evolved under very extreme circumstances. If you have to run away from 3 drunken peasants armed with broken glass, because the will surely beat you, you feel challenged by the game's reality. Don't count on armor too much because you might get knocked down and surrounded. This game will not show you where to go or what to do, you have to work it out.
TLDR: If you miss Fallout 1 & 2 play this russian Fallout 3.
I get that the combat system is inspired in Fallout 1 and 2 but those are games from the 90s...there is no excuse for a game released on 2018 to have such poorly designed encounters.
Imagine a turned based game where the first to shoot wins, but you don't get to shoot first. Many of my deaths in this game have been completely unavoidable because the enemy gets to shoot first and they kill me immediately in their first turn. When the combat is this broken a permadeath mode should not even be considered. I'm half way through the story but I'm really starting to consider quitting simply because of how busted the combat is.
Here is a person who has never played those two classic Fallouts. And tell you what? I'm freaking amazed of the depth of this game. I saw so many reviewes comparing it to the Fallouts, but this is the one I experience for the first time and... I have never played anything like this. Diablo 2/Path of Excile - yes, but not this type of a game...
A nice and smooth depth of the characters, even the minor ones. It is not boring to read their stories like it is in Diablo, idk, may be I'm a freak, but I barely read anything in Diablo, it was just a nonstop boring grind.
- quite a huge starting location. And there are more of them! you just need to find the guides!
- wide variety of choice. I mean everywhere - from weapones and tactics to the dialogue lines you choose.
- Quite a nice economics: you just cannot grind stuff and sell it, as the traders just do not have so much money! You gather stuff, then you sell it to the first person with cash, even if the price is ridiculously low, as you are OVERWEIGHT lol :)
- cool easter eggs and links to films/books. This made me amaze and grin for so many times.
There are around 65 hours of gameplay time on my GOG clock, I've got so much more things to do, as the story goes deeper an deeper, and I absolutely do not regret buying this game.
