A Few Anomalies

Hated this company's Pacific Fleet, but Atlantic Fleet is a totally different beast. Good graphics, a few options which give some leeway in difficulty, and no more "first shot wins scenario," as in Pacific Fleet. Would have given this four stars except for something I just witnessed. After launching a spread of torpedoes from a destroyer, the Gneisenau stopped, backed up, and then took off like a Ferrari when I fired again. Manual could use more detail, too.

If you're into history you'll love it

Overall this is one of my favourite naval strategy games I've tried so far. If you're into military history you'll love it. The way the physics modelling and the way ships list and slow when flooding gives the game an element of realism. There's a lot of strategic choices you can make (stuff like you took out the spots on the enemy BB and she couldn't hit you on the last two salvos, do you try to take out the main guns or do you shift your fire to the CL closing on your DD?) and the AI is pretty good so in most cases they'll react in a realistic way. You can use historical tactics with good results which makes it incredibly satisfying if you have some WWII history knowledge. The user interface is good at breaking down the complexities of managing a ship/fleet into something that's easy to navigate without feeling like it's doing everything for you. The game has a few weird quirks though. At first the turn-based approach feels a little weird, especially when dealing with aircraft. Land-based airstrikes arrive instantaneously while torpedoes can take 3-4 turns to cover the distance to the target. You get used to it though. I also wish there was a way to disable the 3rd person world view in the options (leaving only plotting map and periscope/spot view) for more of that sub-sim feel. Some people don't like that you can't save during a battle but it's never bothered me. In my experience this isn't the kind of lighthearted game you play for 20 minutes after work anyway. It something you sit down with for an hour or two and get really into. Overall I'd give it a 4.5 if I could give half stars. You notice the quirks when you first play, but they don't define the game.

Didn't like turn-based games until now.

When I started playing the game , I was pleasantly supprised. Superb 3D Graphics. Fairly good tutorials and manual. Controls are fairly straightforward and good selection of Ships and Aircraft plus the Battle Editor. Liked the game so much, got Pacific Fleet for Android and got an Android Emulator and am now playing it on my PC. The Game has its flaws;so do most PC Games. For me the Pros of this game far outweigh the cons. Can't weight to see what Kilerfish Games does next.(They released War on the Sea in 2021 and it's good. Check it out on Steam.)

Very Addictive and fun

There are some minor gripes, like you can not save during a battle but over all I am hooked on this game. Nothing like seeing a magazine explosion on a ship you just hit or secondary explosions to make you smile. Landing torpedo hits are a fun challenge too.

Nice turn based Naval Warfare.

I have really enjoyed the game. It's very satisfying to get hits on and sink enemy ships. Wasn't too sure about the turn based mechanic at first, but it works quite well. I would have liked to see more units, may be French and Italian to add a bit more spice, but for the price, and the fact that the game appears to have been developed for mobile phones primarily, I suppose there's not too much to complain about. Killerfish seems to be getting more in-depth in their newer releases and I hope this continues. We need them to make all their titles available on GOG.
