Asura is an indie, top-down, Hack 'n' Slash game set in a fantasy world inspired by the richness of Indian mythology. It features heavy rogue-like elements and a unique procedural skill tree which changes on every play-through.

Reincarnated as a demon, use your new-found powers and hatred to invade the 'Pancha Dvora'- the five fortresses of the Daeva empire. Embark on a journey to exact your vengeance against Hasirama - The God-King, Maharaja, and Slayer of Innocents.

Asura is inspired by rogue-like genre and is brutally difficult but FAIR…

Note: Asura is best experienced with a controller!

Procedural Skill tree:

Craft your Demon using a Skill tree which changes every time you die.

Absorb or Scavenge:

Asura can either Absorb enemies for experience points or Scavenge their corpse for loot.

Unique Combat system:

Engage the enemies with a variety of Melee, Range, and Magic weapons. Melee attacks will deal reduced damage to range enemies, Magic enemies will resist spells, and the Stamina system will always require you to strategies and adapt during battle.

Unique Loot:

Every item in Asura is unique by itself. Slash your enemies with Claw weapon or batter them with a Mighty Hammer. Shoot your enemies with your bow or ignite them with your Magic weapon. There are tons of loot to be discovered in Asura which synergies with your skills.

Brutal Mechanics:

When you get burnt, a random equipment will get destroyed from your inventory. When the enemies or traps poison you, you can't heal. When your health is low, it does not regenerate automatically. When you die, you don't get to save your progress.

Perma-Death:

Inspired by Rogue-like genre, on death you lose all progress.

Very solid ARPG, with unique theme...

Released not very long after Brut@l, this game shares many common mechanisms though clearly different aesthetic. An isometric ARPG featuring high mobility main character(NO, it is NOT an H&S, damn it !) with roguelite elements (permadeath, randomly generated of environments, everchanging skills tree that forces you to adapt on the fly, metaprogression, unlocks), it also features game mechanics that rise up the difficulty (armor/weapon decay, environmental hazards such as fire and traps, etc); its art style is inspired by Indian Mythology, which is yet rather uncommon in video games, and as such, is rather refreshing and charming. The game is quick-paced, it's very challenging (it's a warning !), it's very responsive, also has full controller support as well. Very good replayability for obvious reasons of course. Each run is rather a rather unique challenge, with different set of skills and spells, different possible main character of your choice and of course completely new levels. The game also is still supported and enhanced by the devs as it recently got a free "Content Update", and it's base pricetag, even outside any sale or discount, is completely attractive. If you like challenging action and want to taste some Indian Mythology , for a very small price (imho, the game would worth even more), this game is very solid in its own category and is ,for people into such genre, a must try (and a must-like, without doubt, after trying). Very amazing job for the first game of this studio. I strongly recommend this game.

Always fun rogue-like

RPG as genre maybe a bit misleading especially if you expect a heavy rogue-like Diablo clone. At its very core Asura works more like a top-down beat 'em up than anything else. You have full control over the character in any given time so instead of the 'point an enemy to attack" scheme you have to press the button to attack and the attack have to be in range with something to deal damage to. While you can't jump you can dodge that only grants invincibility against ranged attacks but it is fast enough to move away from melee attacks as well just have to watch out for the direction. The stats are minimal making it very simple to manipulate the builds. What I really love about this title is how it not mess up the difficulty of earily and end game unlike a lot of other rogue-likes. The difficulty is more or less constant but modified by luck because the items aren't always matching with the skills but you can always rely on reflexes alone, or you can try out an experimental setup out of blue. Either way you can't end up helpess but rather have more or less options to switch between. Honestly the active skills alone aren't really that useful as the passive boosting skills. There aren't as definitive builds as in RPGs but the way the game is played generaly that isn't problem at all. You can always use your active abilities to burst out some damage relatively safely compared to button smashing melee. The ranged attack is rather powerful but has limited ammo that can be replenished only by sacrificing money though you can do it outside of ships as well. As simple as it gets: melee counters ranged and vica versa. It is up to you if you prefer standard or high-risk high-reward approach. I can't really talk about the story objectively. The awakening demigod taking revenge theme hits me right in the heart. Combined with the beautiful Hindu setting is just near perfect. Of course there is no deep story but who cares when you're an asura who put the stronger heroes to shame.

This is fun! And fair! And challenging!

I had a very good time checking out Asura earlier today. The Presentation is very good; music and graphics are nicely done and the setting is unique! The Controls are fully customizable, from a) pure keyboard to b) mouse mainly to c) mouse and keyboard - d) A controller is the recommended choice since I did not try it myself, I cannot really say anything about it. I played with keyboard and mouse and found the controls to be very smooth and precise. The soundtrack adds to the ambience created by using the Indian mysticism and all the demons and gods in it as enemies and a fantastic fortress as a battleground. The Story is quite grim, nicely transported with an introduction video and some background information and lore between Levels / Stages. The fact that this game incorporates action based gameplay with persistent upgrades and permanent death in one smooth experience is something that I rarely experience. Each part is well crafted and they all fit together really well. I can easily recommend this for the price asked.

kinda Soulsy, kinda pretty

There's a fun exp-based progression system here that gives you 4 random skill trees per run (always organized around damage/melee, stamina/range, magic, and hp/shielding. As far as the item pool goes, most passive upgrades are basic things like damage upgrades and stamina boosts. Similarly, weapons can have status effects tied to them, like stunning, freezing, or lifesteal, but it's nothing you haven't seen before. Spells ganed through level ups are typically pretty powerful, but they require multiple rooms between uses to recharge, which is just personally annoying. Having to ration the use of powerful skills is one thing, but being told you can only use the cool thing you bought with exp to clear a room once per eight rooms just makes the cool thing seem lame. I will say that I enjoy this game's Hindu mythological aesthetic, especially since you get to play as the bad guys. That's a perspective I havent seen a lot in games.

Amazing game with a Amazing devs

Asura is a very well done rogue-like. It´s very hard, but it´s mechanics of gameplay, weapons, armors, spells, enemies, obstacles...are designed to feel that when you die that death are for your guilt. It´s a game with a learning curve very high, but incredible fun. In this game wait you a lot of hours of death and frustration XD. That is amazing. The game have a skill tree random in each new game, this allow to the game that it not feel repetitive. So if you asked me if i recommend Asura.Of course. You are late in buying it. I feel this game will be fo cult in the future. *Also, the devs are very active and introduce more content in the future for the game.
